Re: Error message on launch VCRUNTIME140_1.dll

@candor222  VCRUNTIME140.dll is part of the 2015-2019 VC++ runtimes, which Sims 4 uses.  The _1 on the end suggests there are multiple copies, one renamed, somewhere on your computer, which shouldn't happen.  Regardless, it's best to uninstall your current copies, if you have them, and download new ones from Microsoft.

Click Windows key-i, select Apps, and scroll down to the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables.  Click on the 2015 (or 2017, or 2015-2019) versions, both x86 and x64, and Uninstall.  (Don't touch the versions from any other year.)  Then download and install new versions directly from Microsoft:

You need both the x86 and x64 versions, but you can skip the ARM version, which is for a different class of device.  Restart your computer before trying to play.

Same issue here, and your solution worked! My Win 10 only had the 2012 runtime, so I had to install the 2017 x86 and x64 files.

    Thank you!

@noly_dr4  Please start by uninstalling your current copies of the 2015 (or 2017, or 2019) VC++ runtimes, both x86 and x64, as described in my earlier post, then download new copies from Microsoft.

When installing Sims 4, please do so by downloading directly from your Origin game library.  The very old version of the game on your DVD may not install correctly.

Welp, I tried this solution and it definitely stopped the error message from popping up on my screen, so at least that was accomplished. However, now Sims 4 doesn't open at all. What's worse is that Origin and Steam say that it's running, but it literally isn't.

Hi again! So, it turns out that your solution WAS correct. I realized that aside from the VCRUNTIME140_1.dll error, Controlled Folder Access was also interfering with my game. The reason The Sims 4 wouldn't actually open despite Steam and Origin presenting it as open was that it was "disabled" on CFA. After I allowed Sims 4 to run through Controlled Folder Access, everything started working again. Thank you so much for your help! <3
