Re: Kids disappeared after parents died

UPDATE:

Just after posting this I thought "there must be a way to go back to a saved game after overwriting the last save". And there is! It's quite simple actually:

  1. Go to: C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\saves
  2. Sort files by date modified
  3. The game actually automatically creates backups of your saves when you delete or overwrite a save. "Slot_00000001.save" is autosave. Your "Saved as.." games should look something like this:Slot_00000017.save (Main save)Slot_00000017.save.ver0 (backup 1)Slot_00000017.save.ver1 (backup 2)Slot_00000017.save.ver2 (backup 3)..and so on
  4. Now, what you want to do is move your .save file to another location (or delete it, althought I recommend saving it elsewhere in case something goes wrong)
  5. Once you moved your main save elsewhere, all you have to do is remove the ".ver#"  from the end of the file you want to restore.

Now the file you renamed will be added back to the list of games you can load!

I hope this helps someone that had similar problems as me. Happy Simming!

@avecremm I know its been a few yrs since you wrote this comment but I am wondering if this is for the sims 4, it did not work for me. while I was away on my main household I had 2 teens from another house hold move out which I did obviously but left their siblings with the elderly parents, the father died and i was not expecting the mother to die but she had done so now the other 2 younger children have gone, I previous saves from the file for the same date and in hope it made room for older saves to come through and I followed your instructions but unfortunately it hasnt worked. any other suggestions?

Yes, the instructions are for The Sims 4. It is however no longer needed to go that way as there now in Load Game is an option to recover old savegames.

  • @jpkarlsen Hi. Thanks for the reply. I worked that out and unfortunately because I save each time I swap over household I do not have old saves if that makes sense. I was hoping when I went into the sims folder that I could delete recent saves and that would make room on my sims account for older saves. Any who it did not work out as I did not have older saves so I have learnt my lesson and that just means that I just do not save the game each time I change households. Hopefully that made sense.

@familybutler Hiya! I've split your thread off of the old post as it was 2 years old and no longer relevant.
