Re: old saves aren't showing up in game as well as my cc

I don't know if this will help or not, but these are the files and the games save and what's apparently in my mod folder. There is only one save in my load games and I checked what folder it is in and it is only one out of the tons you can obviously see in the actually folder.

HM, let me see if I can understand this. You previously used OneDrive to play The Sims 4 and now your folders are not syncing to the game?
Well then the game might not be using OneDrive. Copy the saves and Mods etc from OneDrive to C:\Users\Username\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\ (in your user documents)

    and see if it works?

Or do you have them in both places now and it still does not work?
Delete the resource.cfg from both folders (the game creates a new one). Start the game, exit the game, and search for resource.cfg on the computer. Does it show up anywhere? Then that's the file directory the game is using 🙂

Apparently I have 3 resource.cfg and they're only in the onedrive folder. Should I move or copy them to the actual document or still delete them?

Did both things, nothing really did move from OneDrive to the folder as they have the same exact files. Still doesn't show the cc I recently installed after I reinstalled Sims 4 as well my sims even though they show up in the folders

Actually, the only thing I have of my previous sims is the saves and screenshots I think.
  • If I'm understanding your first post, you still have your saved games in your C:\Users\Username\Documents\Electronic Arts\Sims 4 Folder?

If this correct, have you tried renaming your saves? If you have an old auto save file (Slot_00000001.save) it's safe to delete as the game doesn't use it anymore.

To rename your save, remove the version number. - .ver0 or .ver1

    For example: Slot_00000002.save.ver1

    Rename it to: Slot_00000002.save

by deleting the .ver1 on the end. You may want to give it a different number if you already have a save 2 in your folder. The game should then recognize the save file again.

If the above doesn't help, Crinrict has some very useful tips on saved games disappearing:

    Save Games disappearing
    https://sims4.crinrict.com/en/2014/09/save-games-disappearing/

Regarding the mods. You may want to make sure they aren't outdated. As we received a game update in early Dec. that made a lot of mods and custom not useable anymore. You'll need to go to the sites you download the files from to see if there are any updates.

Check to make sure you have mods and custom content turned on in the options - Options > Game Options > Other. As game updates turn off mods/cc.

If you're trying to get OneDrive not to interfere with your files you can turn it off or disable it. Read more about it in the article linked below:

I have tried all of those and they have not worked unfortunately. And Crinrict doesn't really have the answer to the problem I have. Thank you anyway.

I will be honest, there is a popup that appears in game saying that a pack is being downloaded, unfortunately I can't see it cause shift+F1 doesn't work for me. I don't know if it's a pack or not considering I installed all of my packs completely except one (Holiday). Maybe this has something to do with the problem or maybe it doesn't, I have no idea.

If you have several resource.cgf, try delete all?

also delete localthumbnail.package that should be in the folder above the Mods folder 🙂

What I thought was that your game is using another directory, as no saves or mods are showing up. As resource.cfg is a file that the game creates when you start it, I thought that if you delete all of them, restart the game, exit it and then search for the file, you would know which directory the game is using. Are you with me? 🙂 So, did the game create a new one? If so, where?

Otherwise, enter the game, your save, start playing and take a screenshot (C-button). Does it say where it will be saved? Save the game and exit, then go to windows explorer and earch for today's date on this format "MM-DD-YY", the screenshot shoud show up and give you the used file location. Which is it?

This is what it looks like for me.

If you select the file and right-click it you should be able to choose something like, "Open file directory". My computer is in Swedish so unsure, but should be in the same location.

Then THIS is what it interesting, where are the files? 🙂

If you also have your computer in some weird language you can click the location bar to make it short easy windows-language. Also you can then Crtl+C it right away and paste the location here 🙂

I did the resource.cfg file thing and they still only appeared in the OneDrive folder and not in my actual computer. As for the screen shot, it didn't appear in any folder but is in the screenshot manager thing in the game. Also I keep getting this message that pops up when I put my sim in a lot of land saying one or more items have been removed from create a sim, but nothing looks different (could be because maybe I used some Holiday stuff and it isn't installed anymore). I also still get a popup saying a pack is being installed, but when I checked Origin's download manager in game as that's what the popup said to do to check the process of the download of the pack, I found nothing there?? What does this mean?

Also my sim is using the save from my computer and not my OneDrive. And it seems that some of my files aren't syncing up anymore.

Also there's no recovery saves too, don't know if this information is of any use to you or not.
  • I'm sorry that solution didn't work for you. I was really hoping it would. It has saved my bacon more than I can count.

Downloading something shouldn't make it to where you can't see your saves or use your mods/cc.

There is actually something I had decided to try and found quite weird. I got rid of the save file containing the save that only appears in the game currently and then opened the game again only to see that the save is still there in the game apparently. So I checked my OneDrive to see if somehow, even though it said it was reading the one in my computer and not OneDrive, and it was also gone from my OneDrive folder too. Weird right?

Well, I've heard that OneDrive can screw with your game.. ☚ī¸

Did you try starting the game with OneDrive turned off?

If your folders are syncing to OneDrive or something like that it might have an impact, so I want to know what happends if you turn off OneDrive, have the saves and mods in your user documents, and also, where the resource.cfg is created 🙂

  • I've done a little searching on the issues you're having.

When Sims 4 is stuck in process and not doing anything the solution is to uninstall/reinstall Origin and/or clear Origin cache.

    Uninstall the Origin client
    https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/origin/origin/manually-uninstalling-origin/

    Delete Origin cache files
    https://crinrict.com/blog/2014/09/delete-origin-cache-files.html

Did Crinrict mention these? If so, sorry about the repeat tips.

I am not familiar with OneDrive and don't use it, as it does mess up games and causes problems with other programs. I tried to search both these terms -
    Getting files from OneDrive
How do i move a file from onedrive to my pc?

I'm getting something about fetching files from support.office.com, but it's talking about fetching files from your pc to OneDrive or something like that. I don't think that's what the issue is?

If I understand correctly, you want the files from Onedrive to be moved back to your computer. As it's not syncing anymore. I'm also getting some some instructions from a site that I'm not familiar with, when searching the move files, so I didn't want to post that just in case.

It is weird that your save after deleting it is still there in the load game menu.

"When Sims 4 is stuck in process and not doing anything the solution is to uninstall/reinstall Origin and/or clear Origin cache"

This is not the issue here though, the game isn't stuck in process or not doing anything, the problem is that it does not recognize the user game files..

The game can be played just fine, VixNovacoda just does not want to without her saves and mods, which is normal 🙂

I really do not think Origin has anything to do with this, thanks for trying though.

The saves and mods are already in my documents folder. I also tried it with OneDrive off, but it did not do anything. Also the resource.cfg files are in these locations on my pc

Hm okay. And if you enter the game, start a new save of if you have any there, save it again, exit, and then search for "slot_" on your computer, where is the latest file that shows up located?

For example here are my save files (yes I have not played since before Christmas, I have exams..) :'(

What I'm trying to do is to make sure we know 100% what file directory the game is using, then if we put your old saves there and they still do not show up we'll try to solve that, are you with me? 🙂

(I need some sims user file created after 2018-01-06)

Actually, I have just found out what is exactly wrong with the game. I've been checking the wrong folder. I am so sorry for wasting your time and thank you ^-^ I'm going to put my saves from doc to the actual folder it is using now.
