Re: sims 4 game crashes when loading household

I'm running into the same issue (DXDiag text file below)

I've done the whole delete cache thing in BOTH The Sims 4 AND Origin & uninstalling/repairing/uninstalling BOTH Origin & The Sims 4 as well - NOTHING

I also tried resetting my user files as outlined in this thread roo - NOTHING !!

One (Potentially??) HUGE difference - Although I use mods & CC, I don't think that the problem as the game at least SOMEWHAT worked, I DID however recently installed ReShade (With EVERYTHING located in the same folder as TS4_x64.exe. See the screenshot below) if that matters much

EVEN WITH the latest reshader files (I updated it JUST TODAY), the game crashes back to the Desktop with Origin popping up - NO ERROR GIVEN

I also had A NUMBER of game saves (ALL backed up of course - TWICE (Just to be EXTRA safe 🙂 )

I'm AT MY WITS END trrying to solve this problem.  HELP !!

  • @BachPatu  I've split your post into its own thread because the previous thread was a bit old and apparently didn't fix the issue for you.

Please run a couple of basic checks on your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes into the window, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes into the window, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, move the Sims 4 user folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and see whether you can load a new save in the clean user folder that spawns.

If the game still crashes, please remove all Reshade components and repair the game: open your Origin game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, and select Repair.  Then try to play.  It's worth finding out whether Reshade or some component of it is the problem before spending time chasing down any other issues.

SO FAR it has seemingly worked HOWEVER in order to COMPLETELY get rid of Reshade, I had to COMPLETELY UNINSTALL & REINSTALL the game & CLEAN THE REGISTRY with a registry cleaner in order for it to work

The screenshots below are what you requested.  The YouTube video shows what I was experiencing

NOTE TO OTHER SIMMERS - If you use Mods and/or CC, you DO NOT need the problem of dealing with a reshader as well

IF I EVER USE A RESHADER AGAIN - I'll test it out on ANOTHER game FIRST (Like Titanfall 2 - HEAVEN KNOWS that game benefit from the use of one)

@BachPatu  I'm glad that the problem seems to be fixed at least, even if it took an unreasonable amount of effort to remove Reshade.  If you do decide to install it again in the future, you could back up your files immediately before, including the registry, and then if you needed to remove Reshade, you could (hopefully) simply restore everything rather than uninstalling and reinstalling.

@puzzlezaddict I think what I'll do is test reshaders in OTHER games (Like Titanfall 2) FIRST (With the game running in the background so it can't just "Hook" its way into OTHER folders like Reshade did with Titanfall 2 (Yes I found an instance of the INI file THERE too & NO I DID NOT install it there - But I removed it too)

That's IF I EVEN DECIDE to try reshaders again given THIS bad experience
