Re: Sims 4 is locked at 60 fps

@Vokulak  Please test without mods and without any third-party content at all.  I haven't specifically heard of a mod or Sims 4-specific utility imposing an fps cap, but it's an easy test.

Please also let me know where you're seeing the 60 fps limit, and what the game thinks its framerates are.  For the latter, bring up the cheats console (ctrl-shift-C) and enter fps on , and you'll see the fps counter in the lower-left corner, over the user interface.

For reference, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post as well.

  • @Vokulak  There's nothing obvious in your dxdiag, and since your CPU doesn't have a graphics chip, we can't test that, unfortunately.  One possibility that came to mind, though, is the fps limit in Options.ini, in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4.  Last I checked, the frameratelimit was 200, but please find that line in Options.ini and make sure it's not somehow set to 60.

Please also test the game in DirectX 11 mode, just as an experiment.

  • hi, I am having the same issue after upgrading from a RTX 3060 to a RTX 4060 Ti. No matter what I do, my FPS is locked at 60. I've tried all recommendations from this thread as well as extensive Google searches, I can't figure out why this is happening and it low key defeats the purpose of me upgrading the GPU, lol. My dxdiag is attached below.

@WoohooJuiceSim  Please uninstall Razer's Game Manager Service.  If that doesn't help, remove any other Razer apps you have.

If that doesn't help either, as a test, please remove your graphics card and plug the monitor into the motherboard so it uses the iGPU.  While performance will drop off significantly, you should still see above 60 fps in some contexts; if not, drop down the settings and try again.  The idea here is to see whether this fps limit is tied to the Nvidia GPU or is a more global system issue.

  • Good morning!

So I've tried both running with Razer Game Manager with and without it. I reported no difference and am still locked at 60FPS. I also went and added my card to the GraphicsCards file since my model wasn't listed, still no difference. So I go into the Config. file and Options.ini file to make sure nothing is capped at 60, and nope, everything is at 200.

I have one more thing I am going to try when I get home from work. I read something about RivaTuner locking games on FPS if it's enabled during Startup, especially after a GPU switch. This seems to be a software issue within RivaTuner/NVidia from what I am suspecting. I will report back if this works. Until then, I am open to any more suggestions!

@WoohooJuiceSim  I would still be curious to know whether removing the Nvidia card and running on the iGPU changes anything, not because it's a viable workaround but because it narrows things down.

RivaTuner can be active in a clean boot, which is why I always tell people to check the Task Manager for anything still running.  RTSS wouldn't have any effect if it weren't open though.

  • OKay, so I tried RivaTuner last night and was able to get up to 75 FPS, but it wouldn't go past that. My monitor is set to 180Mhz, in Nvidia control panel and via Windows settings. I am gonna try Adaptive Synce by turning it on in my NVidia Control Panel and see if that works. If not then I give up as I am completely out of ideas as to why this is lol.

Thank you again for your help!
