Re: Sims 4 keeps crashing

I remove all Cc mods and it didnt work so i uninstalled sims and ea app and reinstalled still not working. The main issue is when i click the “change sims” sims crashing. ☹️

Additionally, I do actually need to know what platform someone is playing on in order to try to help them.  You said EA App, which means Windows; but if you hadn't, I'd just ask the question again.

My game is crashing all the time.

I tried to reinstall my w11, even in a new nvme m2.

But even so, the game keeps crashing after a while xD

I tried everything, cleaned the folders, moved to another location, repaired the game, all 🤨

And even so, after some minutes, the game just freeze for like 1-2 seconds and crashes 😢

I cleaned all my RAM, my GPU, tested all, and nothing. I also play Black Desert Online, and all seems fine with that, I don't have problems running the game, it only occurs with The Sims 4.

I attached the DxDiag so you guys can see my config.

@gihmayer  Thanks for providing a dxdiag, which makes the issue clear: Sims 4 is crashing because of the Nvidia graphics driver, which is quite old.  Before updating it, however, it would be best to address the Windows errors also in the dxdiag.  So please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

• Hit Windows key-X
• Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
• Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
• The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
• After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
• Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
• Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
• Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

Run the installer as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator."  Choose the Custom (not Express) install method, and check the box to perform a clean install.  Restart your computer afterwards and before trying to play.

If you get another crash, please post a new dxdiag.

Ok ok, I did all the steps and the message after the scan it was this:

Basically, it was found some corrupted files and the Windows repaired successfully, and it tells me where to find the details if I want/need.

About the graphics, I install the newest one and now I'll try to play to see if it keeps crashing or not.

There is any incompatibility with The Sims 4 and W11 PRO?

@gihmayer  I apologize for the late reply; I took a break from Sims 4 stuff for a while and am only now back.  Are you still getting crashes?  If so, please disable Parsec, in the Task Manager, before launching Sims 4; check the background processes list as well as the main one.

Please make sure to test with no mods or custom content, and feel free to use a new save if you don't want to open your main one without your usual content.

Hello, I'm also having problems with current crashing. And so help will be appreciated.
I have no mods nor cc installed. I've been playing since 2023 and everything was fine until the LIFE AND DEATH update. Since then, after a few minutes of my game, the screen freezes for 2 seconds and it crashes.

I've checked in the EA app if I still apply for the minimun requirements and I do.

- Create a copy of my files and put them in another place
- Uninstall the game entirely 
- Install it again
- Repair the game
- Add my saves file, Tray file, User Setting ini file and Options ini file to the new Sims 4 folder created.

I've been playing with these DLC's for a while now and my game have never crashed. It was in the new update for life and death and the nursery kit when it started to crash and I've not been able to play anymore.

@pandemoho  Please force Sims 4 to run in DirectX 11 mode.  Open the EA App, click Sims 4 > Manage > View properties, and add -dx11 to the command line box.

Hello, I am having the same issue. Crash after crash. I uninstalled all my mods I do have CC which I have went through and deleted a ton of stuff. I also uninstalled onedrive, made a new save file, copy and pasting my folders onto my desktop then playing without any saves at all. I'm thinking maybe it's the new update? Is there a way I can reverse the update because I haven't been able to pass a sim day. It has been the same day in my game because it consistently crashes. 

@leahyeah2002  Please test with no custom content at all just to be thorough.  If you get another crash, please run a dxdiag and attach it to your reply.

Hello, how do I run a dxdiag? Currently I have no mods.

I heard that people uninstalling the origin helps them. How can I do that without losing my saves? It will crash every time my sims enter a new day.

Hi, please help; I also suffer from constant crashing since the latest patch (I recently came back to play again after a year or so). After crashing, most of them don't generate lastException file, so I have no idea why it happened. I already read and tried the solutions from this forum: testing in vanilla (no mods), updating mods, removing old mods, removing any build&buy mods, repairing the game, lowering the game resolution from ultra to high (which is unfortunate since I have RTX 4090), updating to the latest GPU driver, disabling the Game Bar and Game Mode from Windows Settings, removing any files in ConfigOverride, uninstalling any Razer software, and running PowerShell (Administrator). The only thing I haven't done is switch back to DirectX 9. My RAM is 64GB, so it shouldn't be due to insufficient RAM. Here I attach the DxDiag file.

@leahyeah2002  Your laptop's C drive is almost completely out of space, which is probably the reason Sims 4 keeps crashing.  2 GB isn't enough for Windows to maneuver properly even when it's not running anything demanding.  Please try to clear at least 25 GB, then test Sims 4 again.

@emerald_fkui  The two Sims 4 crashes in your dxdiag look like the ones related to high-end Intel processors that the motherboard overclocks by default.  This is an issue with the platform overall, and BIOS updates have been rolling out to address it.  So please look for a newer BIOS version for your motherboard; your current version is 1801.  Google the board model number and look for the Asus specs/support page.

If updating the BIOS doesn't help, or you don't have a newer version available, boot into BIOS and disable CPU turbo boost.  It'll likely be buried under Advanced settings and may be called something slightly different, but Turbo should be in the name somewhere.

If you do this and get another crash, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

@puzzlezaddictHi, I got another crash today after updating the BIOS; I attached the error file.

EDIT: I haven't disabled CPU turbo boost yet; if the error also points to this issue, I will disable it.

@emerald_fkui  This particular faulting module (Simulation_x64.dll) can be related to the issue with CPU turbo boost, but it's more often related to mods or custom content, or occasionally an in-game issue.  If you don't have any mods or cc currently present, and the error happens often, it's still worth disabling any overclocking on your system, CPU turbo boost or otherwise.  Then if the error happens again, you've ruled out overclocking as a cause.

The main overclocking-related error references python37_x64.dll, so if you see one of those, that's definitely the next place to look.

Hi - sorry to jump in but I am having crash issues and have been trying the things that I have read through lots of the posts in this thread. 

After the last crash, I went into the reliability monitor to see the reason for the crash. Please see below what it came up with - can you help??  I have also attached my DxDiag

@bfe56c58aa38ee71  Thanks for all the info, which shows the issue: your graphics chip and driver aren't currently compatible with the DirectX 9 version of Sims 4.  So try forcing the game to run in DX11 mode.  Open the EA App, select Sims 4 > Manage > View properties, and add -dx11 to the command line box.
