@crinrict That Error was showing up in the Debug TXT file in Steam's files. Every time I launch the game, more of that line shows up there so I'm assuming that is what is happening. When it Comes to security software I'm assuming you mean like Antivirus? If so literally nothing.
@crinrict Sorry I don't think the Ping/@ worked properly in the last one
- crinrict5 years agoHero+@SiltionGaming Sorry, I missed your tag.
Are you using the default path to install steam games ? They're usually in steamapps\common. Do you have Sims 4 game files there ?
Do you have any in the Origin_Games folder ? @crinrict @roberta591 I do not use OneDrive, usually is a pain in the * so I avoid it. Steamapps does in fact have files in it but they are definitely not proper game files I'll upload a screenshot here. the Origin games folder is the one that is completely empty, and no matter how many re-installs I do nothing actually installs.I also do not have a "Repair" option on Origin for Sims 4, straight up does not show up upon right clicking it

@SiltionGaming You don't have to "use" OneDrive. Sometimes a Windows 10 update OneDrive login may be part of the update welcome. I don't use OneDrive but right after an update there is a page that sometimes requests you login to OneDrive. OneDrive relocates folders and files in prep to sync. The operating system (Windows 10) knows this and redirects calls to these folders and files. the problem is the game does not know this and keeps looking in the default location. This problem seems to happen after you start the game THEN enable OneDrive. If the default game folder in the user document game folder is empty something is wrong as this folder is checked every time the game starts and if empty the game creates new data. Another issue I have found is a rights issue. Does your user login have rights to the game folder and files. The Sims games have a complicated file structure and I found out early not to mess with it. I have both Origin and Steam and I have no issues playing the Sims games. With issues between EA and Steam I decided to use Origin for this game.
@roberta591Just looked into my Onedrive folder, can't see anything in there that should cause a problem, I'm gonna completely wipe it from my pc then try again. My issue is I played the game fine for like 2 months (on Steam) and then bam it decided to die. I've owned the game for a long while through Origin, since 2014

@SiltionGaming I've been playing since Will Wright put out SimCity with Maxis. Actually my first computer game was the Colossal Cave Adventure by Don Woods and William Crowther for the PDP-10. Can you remember if you uninstalled or installed anything lately?
- @roberta591 Not that I can really recall, obviously the normal flow of game installs etc. nothing Big software-wise though

@SiltionGaming This game does have a complex file structure. Most mistakes are when someone deletes a wrong file. But you say it's not creating any files which is strange. Did you try the repair option in Origin? Next would be a reinstall under Steam. Either should recreate the user files.
- crinrict5 years agoHero+@SiltionGaming It does look like a proper installation. If you go into game, then bin, do you have an exe file there ?
- @crinrict That there is! Yet when i press it nothing actually happens...
- crinrict5 years agoHero+@SiltionGaming Does look like it's fully installed then and something is keeping it from starting.
Have you tried a clean boot ?
https://help.ea.com/en/help/faq/how-to-clean-boot-your-pc/
If it works in that mode, then it's a background program interfering and you will need to find out which one. - @crinrict Clean Boot did not work sadly. Took me a bit to do it due to work sorry
@crinrict So I looked into the files a bit. Whenever I try to launch the game that same Locale_File_Pathy_Empty Error Code pops up in the debug file in the Sims 4 folder, more and more of it. I wouldn't think some background process is causing that to occur.
- crinrict5 years agoHero+@SiltionGaming Loosing track a bit. Did we cover anti virus software blocking something ? Believe you said you have none ? Does none mean Defender or did you turn that off ?
- @crinrict Defender is on, just disabled it as well to test. the game still refuses to launch without Defender on as well. Otherwise, I do not run any antivirus. Never needed to.
- crinrict5 years agoHero+
@SiltionGaming Have you ever tried starting Steam and the game as administrator ?
EDIT: Also, did you just turn off Virus scanning or controlled folder access in Defender ?
- @crinrict I have now attempted with a fully disabled Windows Defender, so not Virus Scanning or Controlled Folder. I also just tried to open both Steam and Sims 4 as Administrator. Neither did anything different
- crinrict5 years agoHero+@SiltionGaming OK. Let's try a full reinstall then.
Uninstall both Steam version and Origin version with Revo Uninstaller and make sure there's nothing Sims left on your computer.
Then just install the steam version. - @crinrict Completely removed all files and installed them through Steam. Still refuses to launch
- crinrict5 years agoHero+
@SiltionGaming I really don't know what's going on then.
Maybe someone else has any ideas.EDIT: To be sure, you never tried just the Origin version ? Like uninstall Steam and just install the Origin base game. You can't use all your DLC that way but this is just to determine if the issue lies with the game in general or the steam version
And a few question
- When you say you moved your game over to steam, does that mean you re-bought the Steam version or did you do some other trick ?
- Are your accounts properly connected ?
- @crinrict I moved it through EA Play since then moved onto steam I was able to pick up the game on steam and link accounts. They should be still linked fine for I can play other games like Battlefield 4, etc... I had been able to play the game until about September then it suddenly just stopped opening altogether. So the game doesn't allow for an Origin install even anymore, where the download button should be it just simply says "Details." Forcing me to install through Steam, then refusing to launch once I do.
- crinrict5 years agoHero+
@SiltionGaming Still don't know what you mean by move ? Could you explain in details how you did that ? Enter your code on Steam or just made a dummy link there or do you actually own the game on steam ?
Do you still have EA Play ?
- @crinrict I do still have EA Play yes, I swapped my subscription from Origin, by canceling the automatic payments. So I technically still have it on Origin until August this year. But I also have EA Play through Steam now too, which includes Sims 4. So I simply installed it through EA Play and it automatically picked up my Origin stuff and allows me to play it all in one through Steam.
- crinrict5 years agoHero+@SiltionGaming OK. So, if you still have it on Origin, I would try if that version works.
Uninstall steam, then install on Origin and see if that works
