  • I moved the mods to the desktop and then deleted the localthumbcache. But it still didn't load. Got any other suggestions?

I've been having this same issue with the patch before the last. I would leave one family and try to go to another it would never load. Once we got the recent patch it stopped and started back working again. As of today, it started back up again. Tried to load into another family the game won't load at all. The Plumblob just keeps spinning and spinning but will never load.

@puzzlezaddict Sorry I am so late with my reply, but it's all of the households within one save. I removed all of my mods and the issue left, but I haven't added any new mod or anything since the last update and it was working fine. Then it just randomly stopped loading into other families, now the main family I usually play with loads just when I go to other families it won't load.

  • @RF2291  Since the problem goes away with no mods present, it should be fairly simple to find the cause of this problem.  If you have a lot of mods and custom content, the 50/50 method can make the process more efficient:

This kind of thing is not all that unusual.  We see it fairly often with cc: the game is fine right up until a particular item is placed in the world.  The same can be true of custom traits and the sim-related info that certain mods can apply.  Point is, if you find the problem mod (or cc file), you can remove only that and play forward.

I have the same problem with one of my households, I'm playing a legacy challenge and I'm about to start gen 8, but now my household doesn't load anymore. I can play with any other family I have in the save, but the one of the legacy. I already tried moving my mods folder to the desk. But I still can't play with my sims.

@ZielaBlack  Have you tried loading a backup version of the save?  In Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > saves, you'll find all your save files, all with names that include eight-digit hexidecimal (base-16) numbers and some with a .verx on the end.  These are the backup versions of the main save with the same name.  If you renumber a backup, so it doesn't share a number with an existing save, and delete the .verx at the end, that save can be loaded from the Main Menu.

Before doing anything else, it's a good idea to back up all your saves, just in case you need them later.  Once you've done that, go ahead and try the backup versions of your affected save.  If the main household still doesn't load, try placing the sims in a different house within that save and see whether you can play them.

@puzzlezaddict So I tried the method with removing mods and adding them back in little by little. It worked fine even when I added all the mods back in. Then it started back doing it yet again. I closed out the game, started it back up today and the issue is back again even after the recent update.

  • @RF2291  With a particular save that won't load, does it work again if you remove all your mods?  It's possible that the problem is not the presence of a mod itself but applying some data that the mod introduces.  For example, a broken custom trait might cause no issues until you actually apply the trait to a sim.  That's just one possibility, of course, and the first question is whether removing the mods fixes a save that currently won't load.

@puzzlezaddict Yes when the mods are removed it works fine. Then when I added them back in in small increments it worked as well. Then when I had them all back in they worked fine too, then it just stopped again. The other families wouldn't load no matter which one I clicked. Now the main family that i play works perfectly fine, it's just as soon as I go to the town to load another family it will just get stuck on the spinning Plumbob. I even left it running accidentally last night and the family never loaded even after me being sleep. I am confused as to what could be causing this tbh. I removed my mods and even repaired my game and such it still doesn't fix it.

  • @RF2291  Sometimes a mod or cc item isn't a problem until it or a feature of it is used.  Examples include cc clothing and custom traits that are fine until you assign the item to a sim.  So from here, what I'd do in your position is get the save to the point where the households aren't loading (keep backups from when it was working, of course), then selectively remove mods and cc until everything works again.  And don't save.  Keep loading the version that doesn't work with mods over and over until you find out which mods and cc items you need to remove to fix things.
