Thank you so much for the quick response!
Nothing was updated or installed yesterday, except for an update to Microsoft.NET because it was suggested as a fix. However, it did not work prior to that either. Otherwise it was just uninstalled/re-installs of origin and the Sims 4.
I've run both Origin and the Sims 4 as administrator to no avail.
CCleaner was used in between installs and the entire registry was cleaned.
Do you have any other possible suggestions?

Not really but I believe it's the same as this Sims 3 error: http://sims3.crinrict.com/en/2011/03/error-service-initialization-failed.html
It's a new wording but probably a similar cause.
You can try if any of the suggestions there work.
Okay, none of those were a solution, BUT, I did manage to figure out what was wrong:
It seems as if the registry entries for my Documents etc folders were MIA, so manually adding them to the registry (http://windowsxp.mvps.org/usershellfolders.htm) fixed it and made TS4 finally decide to load! Seems like it was having an issue finding the Documents folder to add files to!
Thank you for the help and happy simming! 🙂

Did you try all the suggestions posted in this thread ?
- Anonymous8 years ago
Everything except the adding/finding the documents, I don't know where to find them or add them. I clicked the link that was posted but it doesn't exist anymore.
- crinrict8 years agoHero+The link just had a bad character in it. I fixed that. It should work now.
Not sure if it applies to you though.
What OS are you on ? - Anonymous8 years ago
I have windows 10. Not sure if that's what you mean, sorry I'm not that smart when it comes to computers. 😞
- crinrict8 years agoHero+Don't know if that fix works for Win 10 so I would not try it to be safe (especially if you're not comfortable around techie stuff on computers).
And yes, that's what I meant.
Did you try repairing the game through Origin yet ? Just right-click on the game and hit the option to repair. - Anonymous8 years ago
Yeah, I've done that many times, it was the first thing I tried and it didn't work. I removed all my mods and that didn't work, I uninstalled Origin and reinstalled it. Nothing has worked.
- Anonymous8 years agoThe error message I get is this.
Unable to start:
Initialization error at start up.

This started showing up about four days ago. Nothing on my laptop had changed. I hadn't downloaded anything, deleted anything, changed anything. It just started happening. - Anonymous8 years agoThank you so much! It's working now!
- crinrict8 years agoHero+Glad to hear.
Thanks for your feedback.
