Recover data that's only been saved in the tray folder?

Hey!

So I made a family yesterday and spent literally the whole day on it (yep, I'm apparently THAT dedicated...), and I didn't move them in somewhere, but I pressed the heart so they would show up in my household binary, so I should be able to find them easy. I was pretty sure I saved the game afterwards but it was late so I guess I must have missed it, because now the family won't show up... I checked the saves folder and there's no save from that date, although I can find it in the tray folder (as a housebinary-file), so my question is if you can somehow use that file to recover it into the game? It has the right timestamp aswell.

I use CC and it's enabled in the game. I've played the game many times after I installed the spa day update, but only built houses until yesterday when I decided to make a family. I've used CC in the houses aswell and didn't have any problems, and I'm afraid that if I temporary move all the CC to a different folder it will disappear from all the sims I've used it on even when I put it back in the mods folder.

Anyone have any idéa or is it all lost? This happened once or twice before so it'd be good to know if there is a way...

  • @simsilisims  So you have files in Tray that don't correspond to any entries in your Library?  That would be odd, unless you've manually deleted some Tray files.  In your Library, have you enabled the option to view custom content?  If not, your cc items wouldn't show.

Unfortunately I never save families in the library since I mostly focus on building and don't like having too many things in there, but I guess I will from now on if I put so much time in making it... I'm assuming that's what I should have done for that to work?

@simsilisims  Households are supposed to be saved automatically when you leave CAS, or at least they are in a new save.  So please check your in-game library anyway.  Besides, like I said, if there are files in Tray, there should be a corresponding entry in Library.  That's exactly what the Tray folder is for.

I've already checked it. I have some old families there but none of the recent/latest are there (including the ones I'm playing in a save), but as I said, I'm using cc so I'm guessing that's why it won't show up in the library. Before the latest (I think) update you couldn't even save things including cc manually in the library, you could only save it by putting it in the gallery and then find it in the showcase. Now you're able to save directly into the library but I'm pretty sure you still have to do it manually though. I was just curious if there was a way to still recover it since I still have the tray file, but I don't have much hope up tbh ☹️

omg, no I didn't even know you could do that!!! Wow, now I feel really stupid... but how weird though that I could still see the ones with cc I saved manually? A bug or something maybe 🤔 Anyways, thank you so much for your patience! Explains alot...
