Sims 4 Won't Launch

  • I recently downloaded sims 4, September 5th to be precise. I don't have any packs and play only base game. I also play offline and with auto updates disabled. However, a few days after the September 18th update my game started glitching and stopped opening entirely. For context, I'd had WiFi turned on on my laptop the entire day, but I thought the ea app would remain offline. I tried to open sims 4 but it took ages to load and then started glitching, my households, wouldn't load at all, and the game refused to exit, it also kept freezing. I finally managed to get out of the app, but then my ea app wouldn't open no matter what I tried, I had to delete age redownload it. When I login, i see my sims saying updating so I cancel the update because I didn't plan to update yet, but now the game won't open at all, I've tried everything including repairing, nothing works. The screen just shows preparing game then nothing happens. How do I fix this.

  • sophiethethief iamjp30_ BoggyS2A  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  If it copies instead of moving, or you get an error when trying to move it, stop here and let me know.

Otherwise, when you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs, that is if you can get that far.

If you still can't play, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
