Region Locked DLC

Hi, all!

I need some help regarding the Cottage Living Expansion Pack.

I bought The Sims 4 (deluxe edition, if that matters) through Steam. I have also purchased a couple of other DLCs through Steam as well and the EA app registers them all correctly. Now, my problem is that I wanted to get myself TS4's Cottage Living Expansion Pack, however I noticed that if I try to look it up on Steam the DLC doesn't appear and if I use a direct link to the DLC's Steam store page, I receive this message: "An error was encountered while processing your request: This item is currently unavailable in your region."

So the DLC is region locked. I checked on the EA app instead and it appears that I can purchase the Cottage Living DLC through it, but not through Steam. However, I cannot be certain that if I purchase the DLC through EA that my card will fail because of some regional issues, seeing as it is unavailable on Steam for the same reason. I hadn't tried to purchase it as I'm worried that I will not be able to play the DLC as I purchased it on the EA app instead of Steam, where the base game is.

Which further leads me to my questions: Am I able to transfer the base game, or the DLCs, to the EA app? From what I know, this is not a possibility -- however I've heard that you can bring DLCs from the EA app to Steam. I can see the game and the DLCs when I click 'manage add-on' on EA, but it does have the Steam tag on it with 'manage on Steam'. My only problem is that if I bring DLCs I purchased on EA to Steam, then will I be able to even play the Cottage Living DLC? The concern is that due to it being region locked on Steam, Steam won't recognise the DLC if I bring it over from EA, which doesn't appear to have the DLC region locked. Or will the game have the DLC installed nonetheless of Steam's region locking due to -- I don't know -- perhaps directly registering into the game itself.

Thank you for any replies!

Extra clarification:

  • Regarding The Sims 4
  • Involving Cottage Living expansion pack
  • Base game on Steam
  • DLCs bought on Steam
  • Cottage Living purchasable (possibly) only through EA app, not Steam
  • Hi there @SeaLimonium,

The Sims 4 and the DLC is not available in some regions of the world due to regional standards, I believe this includes China, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar and Egypt. If you're currently in one of these regions, this would be why you're receiving this error through Steam- in the EA app you'll most likely run into a similar error.

  • Ahh, I assumed as much. Seeing that I'm able to insert my card credentials on the EA app and that I'm able to even see the DLC (in comparison to Steams jarring warning) gave me a bit of hope, but I suppose not. The Sims 4 itself is available, just not that specific DLC -- which I thought was a little humorous. Anyways, thank you for informing me nonetheless!
