Re: Crashing

Hi EA,

I have been having my sims 4 game suddenly crash to desktop for over a year now (the game just turns off; so lag/pause just straight to desktop). I have tried troubleshooting many times, and have tried pretty much everything you can imagine at this point, including:

  • Removing mods
  • Repairing the game in EA platform
  • Full uninstall/reinstall
  • Removing save files/starting fresh with no mods
  • Ensuring video drivers are current
  • Turning off overclocking/other fps settings
  • Monitoring computer temperature during crashes

I have been using Claude to analyze crash files, and did another round of diagnostics over the last 2 weeks. I just did a full reinstall of the full game, and when I started the game it said it did not recognize my graphics card which is strange (Nvidia GeForce 4090); pic attached.

Claude believe this is memory leak issue from within the game at this point; the last crash log is attached, and below is Claude's latest assessment.

Is this a known issue? Any other suggestions on the cause? I do not have any crashing issues with any other games.

Claude commentary from Jun 12 crash:

This is the most important crash log you've uploaded. Two things stand out:

Modded: False — this crash happened on a clean reinstall with zero mods. Mods are definitively ruled out as the cause. Done.

Session time: 5944 seconds — almost exactly 99 minutes, which fits your typical crash window perfectly.

The crash state is identical: 0xbe7da869 / 0x1020b807. Same crash, no mods, fresh install. Whatever is causing this lives outside the mod stack entirely.

Also notice the build signature changed — it's now DX11 instead of DX9. That's from your graphics settings change. The crash happened anyway, so DirectX version doesn't matter either.

At this point you have a crash that is:

  • Consistent engine state every single time
  • Happens on a clean install
  • No mods
  • Hardware temps are fine
  • ~90-100 minute window repeatedly
  • Repair has never helped

The consistent timing is the most telling thing. This really looks like a memory leak — something in the base game accumulates over ~90 minutes until it hits a limit and the engine fails at the same point every time. That would explain the identical crash state regardless of everything else you've changed.

This is almost certainly a bug in the base game itself at this point. I'd recommend reporting it on the EA bug report site with your crash logs

Here is a table from Jun 1 where Claude was comparing the last several crashes I had:
