Save and Tray files unreadable

 Because of a storage issue, before I enacted the August update I reinstalled the game to my external hard drive. My saves, mods, and test files were kept in my C: drive as usual . Since moving and updating, I have not been able to load any of my saves or gallery items. I can see that the game is reading them, but there's no thumbnail (or the file appears with the "ghost llama" icon). 

I have tried all the standard troubleshooting, including repairing the game, checking and removing bad mods, and creating a new vanilla save. Even when I've played without the mods folder, the Save and Tray files are still blank. Help!

    That's what I was afraid of. I'd welcome anyone else to try and test them; I can link my newer files as well if that would do any good. I have resigned to the fact that they're probably toast, but I'll hold out hope that whatever fix they might put out for all the other current issues might possibly fix mine too. Thank you so much for checking!

    reelstar487​  The link works, and I downloaded a handful of files to test them myself, basically the oldest versions of the oldest saves in the hopes that some would be viable.  But they weren't, at least not for me—I saw exactly what you've described.

    I don't know whether these saves are fixable, but I'll ask around if you want and see whether anyone else has any suggestions.  They might be too far gone though.  Or maybe the ones I tested are too far gone but some of the others are not.

    reelstar487​  It sounds like your save is somewhat broken, but it's not clear whether it's recoverable.  If you'd like me to take a look, or share it with other helpers who could possibly take a look, upload it to a free filesharing site and either post the link here or send it to me via PM.  Please include the backups too, which are the files with the same internal number and a .verx extension.

    The new save is unaffected, and I have been able to save builds from my own gallery profile back into my gallery. However when I try to load one of the “ghost” save (no icon), it takes me to the maps menu of the new save game.

    reelstar487​  If you start a new save, play for a bit, save your progress, then quit and reload, is the new save also affected, or is it fine?  What about if you save a household or build?

    Please also let me know what happens when you try to load an older save.  If your main household in that save won't load, try a different one, if you can.
