Save Folder Separate from Game Folder?
Hi Everyone!
im having one of the WEIRDEST issues right now.
So recently, the sims 4 became a bit too big to have on my PC Lenovo Laptop. I have a game save I’ve been playing for months. So I decided to move it to my hard drive. Unfortunately it was a bit TOO big, so I went ahead and copied my mods and my saves and my tray folder, uninstalled The Sims, and reinstalled onto my hard drive.
I put my old saves folder in the game folder on my hard drive, and booted up the game. No files, so I started a new game, and restarted the whole thing. Still nothing. After some searching and trial and error, I noticed something. The save files were for some reason creating a brand new sims 4 folder on my actual PC, not the hard drive. I deleted this folder in hopes it would create it on my hard drive, but no luck. I tried to see if I could “move game” to hard drive, thinking it was confused, but it said I couldn’t move it to the same location, meaning my game is running all the files from the hard drive EXCEPT my saves.
How do I get my game to read save files from my hard drive? The game runs from the hard drive, but not the saves? What even is this issue 😭
@violettears If your hard drive is external, which it sounds like it is, please DO NOT move Documents to that drive. If the drive is ever unplugged, Windows may react very badly.
Instead, you can redirect the Sims 4 user folder, or the Electronic Arts folder it's in, to the external using a symbolic link:
It's a good idea to back up your user data (saves, mods and custom content, Tray files, etc.) before doing anything, just in case.
