Screen flickering, Sims not working right

I recently installed Sims 4 on my new desktop pc, and it's not running right.  Once I start playing, my monitor starts to glitch and flicker--and I mean the whole monitor, not just the game itself.  If I'm in window mode and I switch over to my browser to look something up, it still gets the lines of static and flickering.  In addition, the game just doesn't seem to be running well.  For example: my Sim was watering plants when the neighbors showed up to welcome her, and I couldn't get her to stop watering the plants to greet them.  Later, I tried to have her fix food, and she kept stomping and fussing about not being able to reach the counter that was right in front of her.

My computer is a refurbished Acer with windows 8 and touch screen.  Any ideas?

  • @KansasCrafter Unfortunately that Acer All-in-one is below the minimum requirements to play the game. The I3 Intel 1.7Ghz cpu is the weakest of the I family. The minimum requirement is 1.8 Ghz. The fact that it is a touch screen is going to reduce performance even more. The graphics that is integrated into the I3 cpu is Intel HD 4400. The minimum requirement is the Intel GMA 4500. The fact that it is an all-in-one means upgraded a weak system may (probably) not possible due to the non standard parts that were used to create that computer. It will probably make a nice student/business computer but as a gaming system its too weak.

You always want a cpu that is more powerful then minimum for a gaming computer.

Integrated graphics chips are the least desirable for a gaming computer.

The Sims 4 is a 3d graphics game.

    Yes, it's an all-in-one.  The Model # is AZ1 - 623 - UR52

That sounds like a loose monitor cable. being an all in one, that would be internal and, you might have to take it for repair to have that checked.

It does look like when I have a loose cable, but the problem only manifests with Sims 4.  I've been using the computer for weeks to design graphics and browse online, and I haven't had any problems before now.  I suppose I could try installing another game and see if the same problem occurs.

Good to know.  Ah, well.  I can still play it on my laptop.
