Screen/cursor freezes when game opens

Hi everyone

I was able to play just fine last weekend, but when I launched the game today my screen and cursor was immediately frozen. I can hear music playing and if i use my touchscreen to tap around I can hear the "button" noise like I'm selecting something. If I exit out of the game using my windows button and then re enter the game the screen will be different. It seems like the game will run when I'm not "on" it.

I've tried:

Repairing, completely uninstalling and reinstalling, clearing cache, deleting mods folder (i only had mcc)

The only thing different with my computer today was that I realized I had a virus on my computer (quick driver update) and I uninstalled it.

My game is completely unplayable and I cannot even get to the settings page within the game to mess with things in there.

I've seen a couple of other posts with the same issue but I don't seem to be having any luck, any advice is greatly appreciated!

  • willowkitty53  Does the game load properly if it starts in windowed mode?  To force it, open Options.ini, in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, search for fullscreen (just that, not an entry with "fullscreen" in the name), and set it to 0 (zero).  If it works, you may be able to switch back to fullscreen mode, but make sure the in-game resolution matches the resolution of your laptop screen.

If that doesn't help, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
