Shift click not working on brand new computer

I bought a brand new computer for Sims 4. After enabling cheats, yes cheats are on I get the message, I go to shift click on an object and don't get any options. The only thing that works is when I click on my sim I get the option to change outfit. I tried my old laptop to make sure I'm doing it correctly and it works fine. Also I tested my keys out on my new keyboard and they are all working correctly.

Anyone have any tips? The only reason I got this new laptop was because I kept getting error messages with my other one that I wasn't connected to the internet. Which was super annoying because I was and I was even able to play Sims 3.

  • It's a Dell laptop and Windows 10, my other laptop is an HP with Windows 10 and I have no issues with the shift click on it.

I only have the base game with no mods or cc.

I save my game file to one drive and am able to access from both computers so I know it's not some in game setting otherwise I'd be having the issue with my HP.

@sandee2081 Is the an US keyboard ?

To be sure, nothing pop-ups up at all ? What happens if you don't have the cheat active ? Do you see the normal interactions or also nothing ?
  • Without cheap mods on I'm able to click on the stove and the refrigerator and cook. When I click on things like the mailbox I don't get any interactions.

I brought the subject up to a coworker that is kind of knowledgeable about computers and she thinks it may be the way the mouse pad is on my new laptop. My HP which is the one I have no issues on has left and right keys separated whereas my Dell is one giant square.

@sandee2081 The Dell laptop with no buttons can be configured. Start > Settings > Devices > Touchpad. Depending on how the drivers for that system’s touchpad are set up, you will either see options to enable right-click there (via two-finger touch and/or pressing the lower-right corner), or else you can click Additional Settings over on the right, then in the window that pops up, click to change the Dell Touchpad settings, go to the Buttons section, and set the Right Button option to "Shortcut menu"..   HTH
