I also had this issue after the last update. I simply used someone else in the house, to call the person, since they still had a relationship. Once i invited them over, I put testing cheats on, shift clicked, and added them back to my house.
Hopefully that helps you out. Why it happened, i'm not sure, but hopefully you're able to play with your missing Sim again.
