kellenvh The initialization error is usually antivirus-related, at least in the case of Sims 4. So let's start there: repair the game (EA App > Sims 4 > Manage > Repair), then set exceptions in your antivirus for TS4_x64, TS4_DX9_x64, and TS4_Launcher_x64, or the entire Bin folder they're in. Set an exception for EADesktop.exe as well while you're there.
If this doesn't help, disable your antivirus, temporarily of course, repair the game, and test. As long as you don't do anything else at the same time, your computer should be safe, and you can reenable the AV once you've tried to open Sims 4 once.
You can repeat the process with Sims 3: Sims3Launcher and TS3 for an EA App install; or Sims3LauncherW and TS3W, both with the W, for a Steam install or a disc install that doesn't require the EA App.

I've turned off the anti-virus, set the exceptions, and repaired the game as advised by others. I get the same error.
