I tried to update sims 4 yesterday but have continuously been receiving the following error. "Something went wrong. An unknown error occurred. Restart the EA app and try again, or reach out to our support team for help."
I spoke to the EA helpdesk (online chat) who advised me to do the following:
Clear cache on EA app,
After that open EA app by running as administrator
When the command prompt opens, type ipconfig/flushdns and press Enter.
Type ipconfig /registerdns and press Enter.
Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.
Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.
Reboot your computer.
The above did not work.
Then I spoke to someone else at the helpdesk who advised:
As I can check, we already have a known issue regarding this reported by many of our players. Good thing is that, this has been brought into the notice of the concerned team and they are diligently working to fix it as soon as possible. I would request you to wait for some time till this gets through. I know nobody likes to wait however rest assured the team is actively working on it and the issue is being addressed on priority.
Then I spoke to someone else today who advised:
Thank you so much for your patience I would like to inform you that I made some changes in your EA account and I request you to please logout from your EA app and then login back again. Once you logged in please let me if you able to see the game in your in game library of your EA app.
Thank you so much for your confirmation, I would like to inform you I set your game active so please close the EA app and open it again then you would able to see the game. After that I request you to please uninstall the game and then restart your PC. Once you restart the PC then you have to install the game. I request you to please wait for some time because changes would take time to sync
This did not work, so I spoke to someone else today:
I have checked your account details and everything seems perfect and in place. Thank you for informing me this. I really appreciate players like you who come forward and lead us in right direction. Trust me, our team always thrive for the betterment of the games as well as our players. I humbly apologize that you are facing some issue, but be assured that those are being worked on and you can report these on our official EA Forum. Kindly refer to this link for reporting :

Please can someone help me? I have uninstalled and reinstalled the EA app as well and nothing is working. I played sims the day before the update and everything was working fine. I have even removed my mods from the folder prior to uninstalling sims 4.
@Yventer Are you saying you uninstalled Sims 4 as well as the EA App? If so, you should have received the updated version of Sims 4 when reinstalling, with no need to update.
If you didn't uninstall Sims 4 and have reasonably-fast internet, that's worth trying next. Uninstall the EA App at the same time as well, but clear its cache first, as some hidden files aren't removed during a standard uninstall.

If your internet is slow enough to make that a hassle, try disabling your antivirus as well as your VPN, if you use one. Clear the App's cache and repair the game, which might fix the update issue anyway.
- 3 years ago@puzzlezaddict Yes, I uninstalled sims, but was finally able to get it reinstalled when I changed the download location from my external drive to my one drive.

@Yventer If the location is truly within OneDrive, for example this:
C:\Users\your username\OneDrive\etc.
then I'd highly recommend installing it elsewhere. OneDrive syncing can cause all kinds of problems, and you really don't want the next update blocked because OneDrive is getting in the way. If the default location of C:\Program Files\EA Games doesn't work for you, it's fine to create a new folder on C and install Sims 4 into that.
