Sims 4 crashes after loading; tried every fix I can find

I played Sims 4 with a couple of expansion packs and mods about a year ago. Never had a problem. Took some time off, recently reinstalled it. Now I can't get it to work. I'm using the same graphics card and one of the same monitors as before.

It never crashes during character creation (regardless of how long), but always crashes anywhere from 10 seconds to 30 minutes once play starts. The last play crashed 10 seconds after loading the family- before I even gave a command.

I tried installing my version of the game without mods and without expansion packs, then downloaded the free EA version. Nothing helped. On reboot I always get an error message "Your PC needs to be restarted to set up High Definition Audio Bus". Restarting solves that error message. No other programs give me this error, but I haven't been able to find a solution for it other than suggestions to update the driver, which I've done.

Looking at the Performance Monitor, there are no failures for Sims, ts4 or Origin, but there are several for Xbox Game Bar. I don't have an Xbox and haven't intentionally installed anything for it; is it automatically part of the Sims install? I don't think this is the whole problem since the Sims has crashed more often than this error has been noted.

Just in case, here's some info on the error:
Problem: Stopped Working
Faulting Application Path: C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay_5.822.10271.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\GameBar.exe
Problem Event Name: MoBEX
Package Full Name: Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay_5.822.10271.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe
Application Name: praid:App

Other things I've tried:
- Uninstalled/reinstalled multiple times
- Ran a clean boot
- Checked Windows update
- Bought and installed Driver Easy which included a new Audio Bus driver
- Stopped virus software
- No conflicts with Firewall
- Ran in compatibility mode
- Disabled fullscreen optimization
- Ran “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” and “sfc /scannow”. No errors/fixes found
- It's not an Origins problem since I have the CD and had the same problem playing with the CD version and the free Origin one.
- I have two different monitors. It crashes on both.
- Tried to start in Safe Mode, but got an error message and couldn't get the game even started.
- Play in off-line mode
- Use ccleaner to clean registry
- chkdsk didn't find anything
- Tried fullscreen Windowed mode

Win 11 Pro 64-bit
Intel Core i9 10920x 3.5GHz
16 GB DDR4 RAM
Plenty of storage
DxDiag is attached.

I'm tearing my hair out over this one and am ready to throw in the towel. Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks.

@DoctorSyzygy  I'm sorry to hear that this is (at least partly) a hardware issue, but at least you have an answer.  Good luck with the rest of the process.
