Sims 4 crashes after update

Today morning I played sims just fine with no problems, I updated sims 4 & I tried playing afterwards again but when EA logo comes on startup I get a message from windows stating sims 4 has stopped working & gives the option to close program down. I contacted EA twice but their help was no good. I did a clean boot, reset game without uninstalling, tried going offline mode etc. but unfortunately nothing worked. does anyone have an idea what it can be? i'll insert my dxdiag if its any help. Ive been trying to figure this out since noon & its about to be 11p.m

If you've recently tested your mods and custom content to make sure they're up to date with the latest game patch, you may need to clear your game cache and delete the localthumbcache.package from the Sims 4 folder to help with troubleshooting.

    How to Delete Cache Files

Custom content can become outdated with most new game patches. If the game works when the Mods folder is removed, then one or more of the mods and/or custom content has become outdated and will need to be removed or replaced. -- EA/Maxis aren't responsible for broken mods/cc. It's up to the creators to fix.

Have you tried updating your graphics drivers and turning off Origin in-game?

    Turn off Origin In-Game:
Open Origin, Select Origin > Application Settings > Origin In Game tab and click the on/off switch to disable Origin In Game. - This deactivates Origin In-Game, as it has been known to cause problems with games.

Restart the computer, to help the computer refresh itself, and try the the game again.

Okay, i may or may not not know how to update my mods.... how do you do that? im having the same issue you posted originally about. i can load games up but as soon as i click on the household to start playing with them in the world my game crashes.. ive never had this happen before.

  • You just have to update the mods, like mc command center , sacraficial, basemental, littlemssam etc not the cc mods. just go to thier website to download the newer versions of those mods, then go to your mods folder and delete the previous version and add the new ones. once you are done updating your mods go to your sims 4 folder and remove the localthumb file then start your game
  • I've had the same issue. Yesterday I spent 9 hours with EA help trying to work through it. Ended up updating to windows 10, and then tried and it STILL CRASHED.
Did more things, everything recommended, and it still won't work.
I've literaly done every step. Copied all my mods (Which are all just CAS stuff and a few pieces of furniture, and CAS is fine, it's just the lot that causes a crash.) into a folder on the desktop and tried playing the game deleted. I've done every step.
Spent another couple hours working on it this morning, and am contacting them again.

This is a problem on EA's side, and they will not admit it.
This is definitely from the patch, and if there's any fix that actually works I'll post, but everything I've tried, which is a lot, does not work.

    I am... really frustrated.

The worst part is it doesn't just crash the game, it crashes my ENTIRE COMPUTER.
Which also means I have to wait for a chat again. And again.
I guess I should just wait to do a phone call instead if this happesn again,

  • I am having this same problem. I did have mods but removed all of them. My game works but if I change my sims from aging my game crashes. (The sims 4 has stop working). Because I did have Mc command mod It changed the aging and all my sims start aging. That is why I am trying to turned aging off.

@lovegirl357love  Try removing options.ini from your Sims 4 game folder.  You'll need to redo all of your game options, but having a new options file may fix the crashes.  If that alone doesn't help, repair the game in Origin: open your game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, and select Repair.
