Sims 4 desktop Shortcut not working?

Hi all,

Recently, my Sims 4 and Sims 3 shortcuts have stopped working. When I click on them, they say 'Origin is not installed, and is required to play your game. Please reinstall Origin.'

What is extremely weird about this, is I can play the games fine if I launch them through the EA app. I'm on Windows 10, so I shouldn't need Origin from my understanding- and haven't used it since they launched the EA app. If I open up the app, I can get in and play Sims 4 totally fine, no issues. If I try to launch the game from the .exe in the Bin folder or if I try to make a shortcut and launch it from the shortcut, it gives me the same error message about Origin every time.

I have tried clearing my cache, repairing the Sims 3 and 4 and reinstalling the EA app.

Nothing is working.

Does anyone have any ideas why this could be happening?

  • @kejake  The EA App needs to be running for the games to launch, and if it's not and can't open, you should see an error message.  The message has probably simply not been updated to reflect the presence of the EA App.  The question is why the App isn't opening when you try to run a game from its executable or shortcut.

Which .exe files are you using?  If you haven't already, try Sims3Launcher.exe and TS4_Launcher_x64.exe.  Sims 3 at least won't launch directly from TS3.exe; trying it would simply call the launcher .exe anyway.

Other than that, I'd suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the App with Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine).  Use the Intensive scanning method when asked.  Download a fresh copy of the App installer rather than reusing an older one.  Then try to launch each game directly from the .exe.
