Sims 4 Freezes (ATI Display Driver Stopped...)

Hello,

I just recently purchased Sims 4 but have been unable to play it as it keeps crashing with a constantly reoccurring "Display driver stopped working and has recovered".

I've tried the following:

1. Window mode

2. Alternated 32/64 bit

3. Repaired the game through origin

4. Move Sims 4 folder, start game, move files

5. Updated windows/graphics card

What else can I do? I'm pretty darn sure my computer exceeds the minimum requirements.

    I know it's been awhile, but to all who may have a similar problem, I was using a cheap (come to find out) extension ribbon for my graphics card.

    I recently reassembled my desktop into a case and all my games started working again. The only difference was the ribbon. I took that sucker and threw it away after writing a scathing review on Amazon.

    The game now plays on ultra at 50+ FPS.

    Hi @aruane3 

    It could be your operating system, as the Cats and Dogs expansion pack has 'upped the computer requirements' quite a bit..? 

    You'll find more details on requirements here at the Help - EA page. (to be absolutely certain, and rule it out; it could even be the RAM needed for example)

    If you're still having problems, let me know. (It could also mean checking into your graphics card capabilities).

    As this issue has been reported also by EA Mai as being the main cause ie: game crashes, etc.. more at her post also.

    According to the dxdiag their computer should be powerful enough I'm quite sure. Maybe make sure the game is running on your AMD graphics card and not the intel-motherboard-graphics? :O

    Just checking in again, I'm not 100% on graphics cards but thought your Radeon was a little 'dated'..? Also noticed a few updates for it online, for different os. (win 10 etc)
     
    Graphics card (video)
    128 MB of Video RAM and support for Pixel Shader 3.0. Supported Graphics cards: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 or better, ATI Radeon X1300 or better, Intel GMA X4500 or better
    NVIDIA GTX 650 or better

    So at 16+ gb sort of borderline, perhaps as well.. depending on any saves and cc?

    Graphic drivers updated this month
    I have 16GB of RAM.
    I have Windows 7 (64bit).
    I have a 3.9 GHz processor with OC capabilities

    Are these really not enough?

    @CMeki Thank you for looking!

    How do I check this? I setup a profile in my ATI control center to run sims, but maybe it's not working?

    My BIOS are several updates behind, could that be the cause?

    Hi @aruane3 I just meant that I'd try freeing up at least 3 - 5 GB first, (as a measure, for EA Mai's mention of space regarding 'saves and cc / mods')

    nb: you could also try changing the 'graphics quality' to a lower setting in game options, to see if it makes a difference?  (ie: short term fix)

    I have two drives - my solid state boot drive for Windows and my my main drive (2 1TB drives in raid) where the game is installed with 350GB free.

    1. Open the "Control Center".
    2. Select "Manage 3D Settings" under 3D Settings. - This might vary, my computer use NVIDIA as standard so it says "NVIDIAs control panel", it might say something else for AMD.
    3. Click on the "Program Settings" tab and select the program you want to choose a graphics card for from the drop down list.

    I don't see that updating your bios could hurt but I'm lying if I say that it will help, because I honestly don't know :D

    Hi again @aruane3@crinrict is pretty good deciphering the dx diag so hopefully, he'll notice soon (having now tagged him). As I don't want to confuse the matter, but I'd try the in game graphics as a 'short term' thing, just to see.

    nb: I have a 'free app/utility' to double check video cards etc, called TechPowerUp GPU-Z that gives in-depth information about your installed graphics card etc.
