Sims 4 freezes leaving build mode/red border/can't click
A number of players are reporting issues when transitioning from Build/Buy to live mode. They include:
- a red border around the screen
- partly or completely missing user interface
- inability to click anywhere in-game
- game freezes requiring a force quit/shutdown/restart
- the Gallery doesn't open, and its category headers are a string of Ws
This is most often caused by an outdated version of the UI Cheats mod. If you have these symptoms, please remove UI Cheats and test. If the problem is gone, you can install an updated version (please test to make sure it works) or play without it.
Please also make sure a copy of UI Cheats isn't hiding in another Mods subfolder, especially if you've downloaded mod collections from other players.
If removing UI Cheats doesn't help, please move your entire Mods folder to the desktop, delete localthumbcache.package, start a new save, and test. (Starting a new save will avoid risking any negative effects of playing your ongoing saves without your other mods.) If the problem is gone, you can add back your mods in batches, testing each time to see whether the problem returns. If and when it does, you'll know that one of the mods you just added is the problem, and you can split the batch and test until you've found the culprit.
If the problem persists in the new save, please do a factory reset as described in the link below. You won't lose any content; this is just to start fresh and rebuild your Sims 4 folder.
