Sims 4 freezing randomly

Hi! I took a break from playing and picked back up recently, but have been experiencing random freezes since updating. I've tried a lot of troubleshooting already with no luck. Sometimes I can get a few hours of gameplay, but once I close and restart again it usually freezes and I'm only able to use the power button to resolve.

It's fairly inconsistent regarding when it occurs as well, but using CAS without it happening is rare and it also usually happens within the first few minutes of gameplay.

Some things I've tried so far:

- uninstalling orgin

- running with orgin offline

- repairing the game via orgin

- uninstalling the game altogether

- removing my game file to start a new one

- removing my mods/cc

I've attached a .txt file of a DxDiag run as well!

Any help is appreciated! 🙂

  • @cskye01  Your dxdiag shows a number of errors related to the laptop's graphics driver.  Since you already have the newest driver offered by Microsoft for your particular system, you'll need to do a clean uninstall and reinstall of the driver.  Here's how:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

Microsoft doesn't offer standalone drivers for Surface laptops.  Instead, download and run the driver package found here:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/102924

You'll want the installer marked Windows 11 (22000), although I believe the drivers are mostly if not entirely the same.  Download this package first, then keep your computer offline until you've installed the new graphics driver.  Restart afterwards and before trying to play.

If you get another freeze, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R, enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  For any errors that happen after you install the new driver, right-click on the entry and select "View technical details," then copy the info and paste it here.  You don't need to post every instance of the same error; just let me know if one of them is making repeat appearances.

The Reliability Monitor sometimes takes an hour or two to update, so if you do get a freeze and don't see anything new, check back later.

@puzzlezaddict Thanks so much for responding! Unfortunately that didn't seem to do the trick, but I was able to grab error reports for before I did the steps below and after.

Here's the three that simultaneously occurred beforehand:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000007f (0x0000000000000008, 0xffff878072340e70, 0xfffff20354f83fc0, 0xfffff8037fc252d0). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: ec779e72-e9b5-49fc-9d57-5629ade4b592.

And here's the one that occurred after:

There was also quite a few of these in between from multiple attempts and having to force it to close, but no additional details: The previous system shutdown at 8:36:07 PM on ‎4/‎29/‎2022 was unexpected.

Thanks again for helping, I really appreciate it!!
