Sims 4 keeps crashing

Hello,

Since months I have not been able to play The Sims 4 on my Windows pc. I have tried all I could think of but it keeps happening on random occasions, usually there is a last exception before the crash, but when using the helper from twistedmexi it just says 'unknown error'. I tried playing on my boyfriend's PC and then te game works without issues. Other games on my pc work fine. List of what I did in an attempt to fix it:

  • Removed and reinstalled the game and EA app
  • Reinstalled Windows 11
  • Removed all my mods
  • Disabled overlays, EA app, Nvidia, Steam
  • Deleted old saves, respawned new save folder
  • BIOS to default for overclocking
  • Updated all my drivers + BIOS

These are my specs:

  • B760M Aorus Elite AX
  • Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-14700KF (3.40 GHz)
  • Apparaat-id 49FC9CE9-2A06-4F06-95CA-667E60571FDD
  • Product-id 00330-81487-73342-AA039
  • Type of system 64-bits operating system, x64-processor
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Super
  • RAM 32.0 GB + 1.82 TB storage (239 GB used)

I hope somebody can help cause at this point I do not know what to do anymore. I also included a dx.diag file.

Thanks, Fleur

  • fleuralia  You're already on the right track with the BIOS update and settings changes.  This error, shown a few times in your dxdiag:

    Foutbucket 2240232553177460440, type 4
    Naam van gebeurtenis: APPCRASH
    Antwoord: Niet beschikbaar
    Id van CAB-bestand: 0

    Handtekening van probleem:
    P1: TS4_x64.exe
    P2: 1.120.140.1020
    P3: 6940b76e
    P4: python37_x64.dll

is indicative of the issue running Sims 4 on high-end Intel processors.  Are you sure your BIOS is updated though?  The motherboard name in the dxdiag isn't always specific enough to be sure, but looking up the model listed in yours, I found this:

    https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B760M-AORUS-ELITE-AX-rev-1x/support#Support-Bios

The newest BIOS is listed as F24, rather than the F18e in your dxdiag.  However, I can't be sure that's the right page, so double-check yourself.

I don't know whether you specifically disabled CPU Turbo Boost in the BIOS, but if not, that would be the next step, that is if the setting is present at all.  I don't know how many B760 boards have it.
