Sims 4 keeps randomly crashing

My game started having this issue since about last week. It first only crashed every time I tried to place a lot in the world, then only when I went into build mode, but now it crashes for no reason. I'm not sure what the issue is and I appreciate the help!

  • @gummi1016  Please test in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save in one of the base game worlds and let me know how it runs.

Please also run a couple of basic checks on your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

@puzzlezaddict I did the first suggestion. The game ran perfectly fine. I went into build mode and even placed a lot in the world and the game did not crash.

@gummi1016  Okay, now you can start moving your saves and other content from the old Sims 4 folder to the new one.  Move any mods and custom content first, and test just those files before moving on.  If you get another crash, you'll know that something you just moved is the problem, and you can split that last batch and retest until you find the culprit.  Leave your saves for last.

And where the game has regenerated files, don't replace them; just use the new ones.  Where there's a new folder, move the files from the old Sims 4 folder to the new one, rather than the folder itself.  For example, move the files inside Tray, not the entire Tray folder.

I would still suggest running the PowerShell commands too, for the overall health of your system, even if Sims 4 is running fine now.

  • @gummi1016 I will try the same, moving files in to new folders, ssd is ok, windows files also ok.
My sims 4 crashes when i switch back to another sim to control in the household, this is new since 2 days, nd happens more and more, so not évery time.
