Sims 4 launching in background but not coming up on my computer

When I launch Sims 4 from Steam, the game loads up, but doesn't actually show up on the computer. I've looked in the task manager and Sims 4 is running in the background, but nothing actually shows up on my screen. Steam says the game is running, and when I try to close out the game in steam it gets stuck on "stopping" without actually doing anything. I've tried restarting the computer, verifying game files, uninstalling and reinstalling sims 4, updating EA, doing App recovery on EA, uninstalling and reinstalling EA ,and deleting the app data for EA from my computer. I've run out of ideas. How can I get Sims 4 running again? It was working fine yesterday.

  • BONEFISH64  If you haven't already, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.

If you still can't play, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
