I had the same problem while trying to load the sims 4 live mode. I did what you said about loading a clean folder, and I was able to run live mode. I added my saves folder save files and scratch folder into the clean The Sims 4 saves folder. It did not work. I deleted only the scratch folder. It did not work. I deleted all older previous saves. It did not work. I deleted the newer saves and restored the older saves. This did work. I have determined that a save file or save files can be corrupted without the use of mods. Sucks to see that save file gone, but at least I figured it out. Let me know if you want the save file to figure out why it got corrupted.
