Sims 4: Pressing "Save" doesn't do anything.

Clicking "Save" does nothing- it just makes the ui click sound and doesn't save my game. There's no saving screen or loading animation or anything. This happens after playing for random amounts of time. I can be playing and saving without issues for anywhere between 10 minutes to an hour and then suddenly the save button doesn't do anything anymore and I lose all my progress from the last time it successfully saved.  There are no recovery save files made from that point on either.  This happens with "save", "save as", and "save and exit".  With "save and exit" the game doesn't close either.

Also when I try to upload my lot to the library or gallery it doesn't work either- it just says "there was an error saving this lot to the library" so I always lose whatever project I'm working on.  I tried playing on a different computer and it still happens which makes me think it might be tied to my ea or steam account? (I bought the game through ea and launch it through steam ever since it became an option, but this problem still happens regardless of how I launch it.)  It seems like everything else works perfectly fine though- I can close the main menu and keep playing like normal if I wanted to, but I won't be able to save from that point on.

Things I tried so far:

  • made sure my game is on the latest version and updated my game
  • verified game files through steam
  • repaired the game through EA
  • removed all mods and save files
  • renamed "the sims 4 folder" to have it make new files
  • restarted and updated my pc
  • going online and offline mode through the EA app

i'm hesitant to completely reinstall the game since this is happening on two seperate computers which makes me think it wouldn't fix anything. I have almost all available DLC so it would probably take a full day to be able to download them all again, but of course if someone thinks it could solve the problem I will try it.

  • @Erythina  To be clear, does the issue saving your progress or a build happen on both computers, or only the issue of uploading to the Gallery?  Can you upload a random box with no decor on a 20x20 lot to the Gallery?  Please try even if you'll take it down again right away.

Please also let me know whether OneDrive is running on either of these computers, even if you never use it; and what antivirus they're running.

While the issue uploading to the Gallery could be account-related, there is no account issue that should affect your ability to save your progress or save to your Library.

all saves, and save as doesnt work either. it basically just makes the sound but wont close when save and exit. I repaired and nothing changed.

  • Lancasterj13  To test a few issues at once, please create a new admin Windows account on your computer and try playing there.  Make it local, as in, don't link it to your Microsoft account or any email address.  You'll be able to open the game without reinstalling anything, but your existing saves and other user data won't be available.

If saving works, restart your computer and try again, still in this new Windows account, to make sure nothing changes.  For example, an antivirus might interfere with the game only the second time it opens.
