Sims 4 Save Files Have Disappeared
I have been playing the Sims 4 for years. The past few weeks, I have been preparing to get back into playing with my legacy challenge save by installing new cc and mods as well as building my legacy family a new house. I have been working on their house in a separate save file for the past five-seven days. Yesterday while on YouTube, I got a notification on my computer saying that EA needed to restart within two minutes (maybe one, I don't remember). I wasn't sure what that meant, but scared of missing an update or something, I clicked "restart" on the notification. Thirty or so seconds later, I was prompted with the sign in window. I signed back in and went back to what I was doing, and then continued working on the house some more that night.
I finally finished the house around noon today, saved it to my library, and prepared to enter the save with my legacy challenge to move them into their new house. But when I clicked on "load" there were no saves except for the one I have been continuously building the house on the past few days. I closed and reopened the game, same problem. I went into the saves folder in my Sims 4 folder and there is no data except for the times I saved today. There is no Sims 4 data in Onedrive or any other save files anywhere else on my computer. I installed a data recovery program but that only pulled up some saves from yesterday and a few random ones from 2022. Some of them were marked as deleted and some of them said the file location could no longer be found. I put those into my game, but as I said, I've been playing continuously on a single save to build a house for the past five days or so, so the recent recovered saves weren't helpful as they only had data from that save. I had some old backups from 2020, but those weren't helpful either as that's still three years worth of saves I'm missing. This could have occurred anytime in the past five-seven days as I haven't clicked on "load game" since today.
Maybe the new Sims delivery screwed something up? Maybe the strange restart prompt I got from EA? Maybe the mods and custom content I've been downloading the past few weeks (though I've been actively testing all of those up until a week ago when I started working on the new house and nothing was wrong with my saves then. I did download three more mods this morning, but they're from creators I trust and have downloaded content from before.) There is one strange save that I think was one of the ones from 2022 that has only silhouettes of sims for the image, no title except the save.0000014 or something like that, and when I try to play it, I'm put on the lot my legacy challenge takes place on but before I renovated it with a random sim as the household.
Does anyone have any idea what might have happened or how I can get my saves back?
@RandomFandomNerd I'm not sure it's possible to get your saves back, unfortunately. But I am curious what locations the file recovery program listed when it searched for your saves. It would be great if you could post a few screenshots of the results, including the ones where the program says the location no longer exists.
I'm asking for the info for you but also for the other players who run into this same problem. If I can see where the saves were initially, it might help me figure out why they disappeared.
Please also open Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 and take a screenshot of the contents. I'd like to see if there are any files or folders within the Sims 4 folder that don't belong there.
