Sims 4 skintones and makeup weird changes after first time updating since 2019

Hello!

I was playing The Sims 4 in offline mode for several years, since the updates were getting really annoying, and also critically affected my sims or gameplay which was really hard to accept.

I however decided to update yesterday, because i wanted to pick up loads of DLCs.

Since this update, all of my previously created sims dont look too great. This just makes me really really sad :/ Their skintones and builds (muscle details) dont look like what they had, and all of their applied makeup looks really ugly, especially the blushes, intolerable.

I looked around and found out there was a skin tone update, but i didnt find information about the depth of this update. Was this just adding +100 new skins, or did it also change existing ones? im using mainly pale/tan ones. What about makeup?
Why is it important? I want to know if im just hallucinating, or if they really reworked these. If they did, then ill just give up on the DLCs and keep playing without updating, since i kept my old game installation too just in case the update went wrong (it usually goes wrong)

I dont use CC skins/makeups

Thanks in advance for reply

  • @ShioriHaru  This method is safe insofar as it won't corrupt the sims themselves.  However, I believe taking sims into CAS can mark them as played.  This is fine for residents—just mark them as unplayed again if you want—but it may result in special NPC sims losing their assignments.  You'd need a mod to get around this, I think by manually giving them back their assignments.

If you want to edit special NPCs and would like help finding or using a mod to make them retain their assignments, let me know, and I'll ask someone who's actually done this to post.

  • Heres the thing, i have my offline Sims 4 on a Windows 8.1 OS, and the recently updated one  on a fresh install of Windows 10.
I made screenshots of both, that im going to upload in the afternoon. After comparing the screenshots of the updated version to the older one, via copying them to my windows 8.1 OS, they dont look too different, there is more than slight issue with blush, but other than that seems mostly the same/ fine.

However if i look at the pictures (or at the game) on the windows 10 OS, the tones and colors look bright, flat, washed out, and just plain wrong at the same time.
Im using the same display for both, so the issue lies with Windows 10 HDR or adaptive contrast or something, Not sure if youre able to help with that, but if you have some hints if i can do anything to fix the blush - and in some cases makeup please share (when i uploaded the screens).

Makeup and skin color issues (much darker and less defined skin after update), happen to every sim with different blush colors
Left is original, Right is post update.
May not look significant, but bugs the hell out of me
tell me if you see the differences or is it just me and my eyes

and the overall issue with colors (screenshot by phone)

top of the screens are from windows 8.1, bottom one is windows 10

@ShioriHaru  The makeup may be a game issue, perhaps the result of the update that introduced a number of makeup sliders a while back.  You should be able to turn down the opacity of the blush.

The fact that the skintones look the same in screenshots strongly suggests that their appearance is not a game issue but rather a software issue on your side or on the driver/OS side.  It's certainly possible that something about the game changed under the hood, and Windows 10 handles it differently than 8.1, but the sims aren't supposed to look different, and as far as I can remember, there haven't been any similar complaints to yours from players who didn't use custom content.

There's nothing obvious in your dxdiag that would explain the issue, although it's possible your Asus software is having some effect.  You could try playing in a clean boot to see whether it helps; you may need to manually disable some Asus/Armoury processes in the Task Manager as well.

If that doesn't help, try playing around with the Nvidia Control Panel settings.  Here's a good explanation of what the settings do:

    https://www.nvidia.com/content/Control-Panel-Help/vLatest/en-us/mergedProjects/nv3d/Manage_3D_Settings_(reference).htm

There's no harm in experimenting a bit to see what you can get.

Played with these nvidia settings, and now using windows 10's night light setting at 8 to get a somewhat better screen.
I will try and see if i can restore my blush and make my skin color slightly more pale like it was originally thank you

Asus armory did mention something about illuminating the display so i might as well try and remove it altogether from my system

Since then i experimented at work with a windows 8.1 and a windows 10 pc, both using integrated graphics and the result makes me think windows 10 sucks at displaying colors
Why nobody complains i think is because like 1% of PC users use windows 8.1. I did find a few complaints on microsoft forums, left without a solution of course.
Found complaints about the skin tone change too, but only about broken CC skins, did not find any info wether they updated the paler spectrum of the skins too, or simply added new, darker ones

Okay, using the cas.fulledit i was able to restore the skin and makeup color/transparency.
All fine and dandy with the family sims, but how safe is this method done on sims not in world, worker sims, neighbours? because literally every sim in my game has the issue
