Sims 4 Unplayable After 10/22/24 Update

So I'm able to load up my game and my households/saves just fine, but when I try and actually play, I can't; Nothing in the world is selectable - the floor, objects, sims, etc. I'm able to select items in my inventory as normal, but otherwise I can't make my sims do anything else. & I tried multiple saves and even recovered an old save to see if the issue was just on one save file, but it happened with every household I had saved before the update.

In addition, I can't place objects with build/buy anymore. I can still browse the catalogue and select items, but you can't see the item in-world after it's been selected. I can see the closed fist icon which means I'm holding a build/buy object, but the object itself isn't visible. And if I click to try and place the item, I get an error saying I can't place items outside of the current lot, even though I was trying to place something inside of the house nowhere near the edges of the lot.

I don't currently play with mods and they are disabled in my game, so I know this isn't a mod issue.

Help please?

@puzzlezaddict I did this and there wasn't Dx9 or 11 anywhere in the game options. I logged in today and none of my saved games were in there, just the option to start a new game. At this point I'm getting pissed and over trying to play the game; too much work to fix something EA broke with these dumb updates. I do appreciate your help though

@PersephoneEko  Because your laptop only has integrated Intel graphics, Sims 4 defaults to DirectX 9 mode and doesn't have the DX9 option in the graphics settings.  There's a way to force DX11 mode, but before going down that road, what exact issue(s) are you having with the game?  This has become something of a collection thread, and you might not have the same problem or the same solution as everyone else here.

If you moved the Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts, that would explain why your saves are no longer available.  They'd still be intact in the folder you moved though.  If you didn't move this folder, please see the first post of this thread covering missing user data:

  • Sorry for not getting back to you guys right away, I was sick all week and didn't even feel like booting up TS4 until Thursday. I switched to DirectX 9, and it fixed everything! Was such a huge relief :D

So excited for the next expansion, can't wait!!! 👿

@MotorDaffodil64  Thanks for the update, and the late-ish reply is not a problem at all.  If you want to try DirectX 11 mode again, try removing any files you have in ConfigOverride, inside Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4.

  • Also can’t play since update- I can get to the main screen and when I click resume then I’m just stuck in loading purgatory. I timed it yesterday, I waited for 45 minutes before I just gave up

@lexidork  Can you load a different household within that save?  Click Load Game rather than Resume to test.  If that works, try inviting your main sims over and switching to them.

  • I had that problem around two weeks ago, since then my game has stopped working completely. I've tried everything I could to try making it launch and the only thing that seemed to work just slightly was a mod that let me go into the game offline. but it'd crash anyway when I'd attempt to play a household. I've sort of just gave up playing the game completely cause I'm tired going back an forth between settings and my files.

@poisonousbuthole  If you'd like to keep troubleshooting, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

If that doesn't help, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.
