Sims 4 update won't install

Hey all,

I'm facing a bit of a dilemma here and could really use your input. So, I've been eagerly waiting to install the latest Sims 4 update, but it seems like the universe is conspiring against me. When I open the EA App, it shows a blank slate without any game details or the option to download the update. Talk about frustrating!

Naturally, I've gone through the usual troubleshooting steps to try and fix the issue. I cleared the EA App cache, restarted the app (multiple times, actually), logged out and logged back in, repaired the app, ran it as an admin—heck, I even deleted the "cachecreated" file in the installation data. Nothing seems to be doing the trick!

But alas, despite all my efforts, I'm still stuck in this update limbo. It's like the update is playing a game of hide-and-seek with me, and I'm definitely losing. To provide more context and potentially receive more targeted assistance, I've attached my dxdiag file to this post. Hopefully, it contains some clues that might shed light on this perplexing issue.

If any of you have encountered a similar issue or have any bright ideas on how to tackle this problem, please, please share your wisdom! I'm all ears and ready to give it another shot.

@moonnyxx Try killing the EABackgroundService in the Task Manager.

If that doesn't help, please uninstall the EA App with Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine), then restart your computer, download a fresh copy of the App's installer, and run it.

If the App still doesn't load normally, please let me know what antivirus you use. Please also post a screenshot of what you see when you open the App.

@moonnyxx Please force the EA App to update. Go here:

C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop\EA Desktop

and launch the EAUpdater.exe. Then let me know whether you can update Sims 4, and if not, whether the EA App itself is loading as normal.

Okay, I've got some... news. So I managed to snag this error before the EA Updater closed:
The EA app is already up to date. Exiting....
[Exit in 2 seconds]
So, I launched the app, canceled the download because it would continue to be stuck, and then relaunched it. Same problem. If I had access to the Sims 4 game page I would attempt to repair the game (that's what I wanted to do to fix the initial issue of the game not updating), however I'm currently stuck and I can't do anything.

Well, I'm getting somewhere! It shows "Calculating time" so I can actually download something. I'll provide an update on whether I downloaded the update or not.

Well, I've had the same issues, and tried all the same fixes and this morning found that somehow Origin has uninstalled itself. So now I'm back to square one. It's so frustrating that these updates can be so glitchy!

@Minigherkin Does your computer run Windows or macOS? Origin doesn't work in Windows anymore, but it's still the only option for Mac users.

Oh my, thank you so much for this! I was having the same problem and was wracking my brains trying to work out what I had done to mess it up! Fixed it when I forced it to update 🙂

So, I use the EA app and I just got the new horse expansion. Unfortunately though, I have to update before even downloading it. The issue is every time I try to update it says an unexpected issue has occurred. I've made sure I have all the Microsoft visuals, I've tried clearing my cache, I've tried restarting the app and my computer multiple times, and still I keep having the same issue. EA isn't helping me and I don't know what else to do. If anyone knows how or what I can do to fix this so I can just play my game I really appreciate it.
