Sims 4 updating even though automatic updates are set to OFF in EA app

I have turned off automatic updates multiple times in EA app but every time there is an update for Sims 4, it starts uploading automatically when the EA app launches on start up of PC.  When I check...

HLE124​  Do you remember if you checked the box to "update games automatically" when you installed Sims 4?  It sounds like that would apply to the master auto-update option in the App settings, but maybe it has effects beyond that for the game(s) where it's selected.

Other than that, I'm not sure why the setting is reverting.  Do you use some kind of cleaner app that deletes temporary files?  Do other EA App settings revert to default as well?
