Sims 4 using 10GB RAM since update

Hi. Noticed while playing today that my Sims 4 is using 10GB of RAM. I had it on Ultra settings, everything maxed, which I have now turned down to High and I turned off post-process shading but it's still running at 10GB. I have 16GB RAM and a GTX 1080 8GB graphics card. I more than exceed the minimum specs for the game.

I have some outdated mods like Wonderful Whims that I'm waiting to update, and LittleMsSam recently changed a bunch of mods to use XML injector instead of script file. However, I'm using exactly the same amount of mods as before the update and I've never experienced anything like this. I noticed my game was laggy but began to grow really concerned when the YouTube video I had on my second screen started to stutter.

I don't think my mods are the issue unless having fewer script mods could have caused this somehow... How can I fix performance so it doesn't use so much RAM? I have AAA action adventure games that doesn't use this much memory. I have all packs (EP, GP, SP, kits) and I am using the new EA app.

  • @NiaBlack  Just checking, but you've confirmed that Sims 4 itself is using 10 GB RAM, and it's not your system overall or Sims 4 plus the EA App or something else on top of the game itself?  It sounds like you're sure, but I wouldn't want to waste your time if not.

Anyway, please test without your mods and custom content just in case one of them is causing some weird memory leak.  You don't need to save your progress.

If the game still uses 10 GB memory or anywhere close, please start a new save for comparison's sake and let me know how much that uses after running for about 20 minutes, again with no mods or cc.

And if the EA App is eating RAM, put it in offline mode.

@puzzlezaddict Thanks for the reply! Without mods my current save file uses 6.5 GB of RAM. A new save file in a starter home used only 4 GB RAM. All on Ultra settings. EA app thankfully isn't the problem - it never uses more than 300 MB. I've decided to repair my game and clear my saves and just start over. I'm going to try isolate the mods and figure out which one was causing such a big problem as well but that may take me a while.

@NiaBlack  Please let me know what you find.  4 GB RAM just for a new Sims 4 save is a lot, so if the game itself is using just that, it's pretty surprising.  But 2.5 GB more for a long-played save is pretty standard.
