Sims 4 wont launch

I finished installing the Sims 4 to my EA App. Recently switched from Origin. When I clicked to launch, I got an error: "Your game failed to launch    Double-check your connection, or try again later."

I am connected to the internet. I tried several solutions including: repairing the game, reinstalling, checking for EA app updates. I removed the mods I had installed etc. I am a EA play subscriber through XBOX Game Pass, though I own the game outright through EA as well.

  • @HomieWonKenobi  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

If that doesn't help, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

    https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/pc/how-to-gather-dxdiag-information/

And please double-check whether your EA Play subscription is currently active, just in case this is all because of an expired sub.

  • If you're experiencing issues with The Sims 4 not launching, there are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the problem:

    1. Check that your computer meets the minimum system requirements for the game. The Sims 4 requires a 64-bit operating system and a minimum of 4 GB of RAM.

    2. Make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date. Outdated graphics card drivers can cause issues with launching the game.

    3. Try running the game in compatibility mode. Right-click on the game's icon and select "Properties," then go to the "Compatibility" tab and check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select an earlier version of Windows.

    4. Disable any antivirus or firewall software temporarily to see if they are blocking the game from launching.

    5. Repair the game files using the Origin client. Open the Origin client, go to your game library, right-click on The Sims 4, and select "Repair."

    6. If none of the above steps work, try uninstalling and reinstalling the game.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may want to contact The Sims 4 customer support for further assistance.

It didn't work trying to play with a clean folder.

I ran the dxdiag and attached.

My EA play subscription is active via Xbox Gamepass. I also own the game separately.

@HomieWonKenobi  Please uninstall all your Razer software and try again to play.  Synapse and Game Manager Service are both crashing, so it's best to get rid of everything and see whether the game works.  If it does, you can try reinstalling the apps you'd like to use and see how it goes.

Your dxdiag also lists a few failed Windows updates.  Those should be addressed to unless you're deliberately blocking the updates and therefore know it's not a problem.  If that's not the case, please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes into the window, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes into the window, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the button to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

    @puzzlezaddict

After the first scan I got no errors.

This is the result of the second scan:

"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.

For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at
windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline
repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag."

I am not blocking any updates on purpose. My system says I am up to date when I check "Windows Update" under settings.

After uninstalling razer programs, I am still getting the same error when attempting to start the game.

Thanks for all your help. This is really frustrating. Means a lot that your assisting me.

@HomieWonKenobi  If you use a third-party antivirus, please set exceptions for TS4_x64.exe and EADesktop.exe.  And look through the antivirus notifications to see if it's blocked anything Sims 4- or EA-related recently.  Please also run the EA App itself as an admin: right-click the desktop shortcut and select "Run as administrator."

If that doesn't help, try playing in a clean boot:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows-da2f9573-6eec-00ad-2f8a-a97a1807f3dd

The one service to leave enabled is the EABackgroundService, which the EA App needs in order to launch.  Disable the rest as described.

When you reboot, go through the Task Manager's background processes list shutting down anything that doesn't absolutely need to be running, for example a utility like MSI Afterburner might still be active.  If you accidentally kill the wrong process and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer again.

If you still can't play, please look for any related errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent attempt to launch Sims 3, specifically in the clean boot.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

If you can't find any related errors, that's helpful information too.
