Sims 4 won't open for me + sister, using steam and EA app, no mods/no packs

Okay, I've never had so much of an issue with the sims 4 that I've had to come here, I don't know what info to give or anything like that, so I'm just going to try to explain as best as I can.

I've gotten a new laptop a while back, probably end of September or early October, I don't remember. I was able to run the Sims 4 on my old laptop which was objectively worse than this one. I was also able to run the Sims 4 on this laptop as well in the beginning. I was able to run it with all of my mods and all of my packs that I have. But one day, out of nowhere, I was all of a sudden unable to run the game. I have the game downloaded through Steam, I've verified the files, redownloaded Sims, redownloaded EA app, I can run ALL of my other Steam games. But the Sims 4 is the ONLY game I'm having an issue with.

I never get an error or anything. It acts as if it will open, the Steam 'play' button changes, then it will go to open the EA app as usual, then just nothing. the 'play' button returns and nothing happens. I removed all of my mods, still nothing. removed all of my DLC, still nothing. I've checked the requirements for the game to run, and my laptop meets minimum requirements -- the only reason I don't meet recommended requirements is due to my graphics. EA doesn't offer live support for this issue, which is so aggravating, and neither does Steam.

My younger sister, who recently got her own laptop as well, just mildly less than my own laptop and also meets requirements, and is also having the exact same issue. Yes, we both have tried verifying files, we both use Steam, we both have redownloaded the game AND EA app. My sister has no mods and has never had any mods, and has no and has never had any DLC, completely vanilla on her part, while I have had mods and DLC in my game previously.

  • @welzerocci  Yes, that's what I wanted.  Please remove ReShade and everything related to it, and repair the game.  If you're not sure what belongs to ReShade, delete the entire Bin folder here:

    D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\The Sims 4\Game\Bin

The repair option in Steam is called "verify integrity of the game files," and it should be somewhere under Properties, maybe in Local Files.  (It's moved around a bit, apparently.)

@puzzlezaddict I don't have steam family even set up, so that's definitely not the issue.

I'm not sure what antivirus I use, but here's what I think I should show and my dxdiag file, I hope I added these correctly.

@welzerocci  Please try running the EA App as an admin: right-click the desktop shortcut and select "Run as administrator."  Wait for the App to load properly before trying to launch Sims 4.

If the App doesn't work, uninstall it with Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine), and use the Intensive scanning method.  Restart your computer, reinstall the App, and repeat the above.

Please also make sure your Steam and EA accounts are currently linked.  Try to sign into any EA site (this one is fine) with your Steam credentials.  If you land in the correct EA account, it's fine; if anything else happens, let me know.

If the EA App is working and your Steam and EA accounts are linked, but you still can't play, please create a new admin Windows account and try playing there.  Make it local, as in, don't link it to your Microsoft account or any email address.  (You can keep declining.)  You'll be able to try to launch Sims 4 without reinstalling anything.  Here too, please run the EA App as an admin and make sure it's loaded before trying to play.

If this doesn't help either, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent attempt to launch Sims 4, specifically in the new Windows account.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

@puzzlezaddict Alright, I've tried all of that and am still unable to run the game. Here's the info you asked about in the last paragraph, I hope I'm adding this in the way you wanted.

@puzzlezaddict Oh my god, I completely forgot I had that !!! Thank you so much, my game is working now. I may bother about my sister's laptop in the coming day or two if anything goes wrong with hers, but mine is completely fixed !!!
