i'll have to try this if the thermal paste i got doesn't work. i know the guy who worked on my computer said i might have to clean boot since it's possible i got a bug in my operating system.
@2yezk7avk6e8 A clean boot is not a clean reinstall of Windows. It's merely disabling all nonessential services so that nothing can conflict with whatever software you're testing. I wouldn't tell someone to reinstall Windows without explaining why and how they'll lose data. And anyway, a repair install of Windows is a worthwhile intermediate step that doesn't involved deleting any data.

i mean it was a good idea to get a clean install since there was a possibility that i had a virus on my computer that was causing problems BUT it didn't solve the issue </3.. i got better fans and thermal paste on my cpu and even though my computer is quieter sims 4 still crashes!

@2yezk7avk6e8 Please post a new dxdiag. Please also look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor. Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day. Today is on the right.
Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash, specifically in the clean boot. If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here. If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

@2yezk7avk6e8 Did you reset your computer? I ask because your graphics driver is now from 2021, where it was previously current.
At any rate, given the errors in your new dxdiag, please run a repair install of Windows 11, as described in post 9, if you haven't already.
Please also install the newest graphics driver from Nvidia:
https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/230594/en-us/
Run the installer as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator." Choose the Custom (not Express) install method, and check the box to perform a clean install. Restart afterwards and before trying to play.
Please continue to test the game with a new save in a clean user folder, with no mods or custom content present. Double-check the temperatures you see when running Sims 4, and let me know if the CPU gets over 90º or the GPU over 70. If you get another crash, please post the same info: newly-run dxdiag plus any error in the Reliability Monitor.

my stupid * computer keeps on giving me driver installation error in the nvidia application and from the download itself so i think that's that for my graphics driver but i will do a repair install
- 2yezk7avk6e811 months agoNew Rookie
okay nevermind! i don't get a fix problems with windows update button and i tried to run the troubleshooter for a failed update and it failed to run. so it's whatever. i could care less at this point this computer is a piece of *
- puzzlezaddict11 months agoHero+
@2yezk7avk6e8 This problem should be fixable; the question is how much effort it takes. Are you willing at this point to do a clean install of Windows? That would erase everything, but it might also be faster than taking intermediate steps. Here's how:
https://www.elevenforum.com/t/clean-install-windows-11.99/
If you don't want to do this (yet), please post screenshots of the error(s) you're seeing when you try to install the new graphics driver or anything else.
- 2yezk7avk6e811 months agoNew Rookie
i mean when i got the thermal paste put on my cpu i got a clean install and upgrade to windows 11. there is a possibility that the graphics drivers rolled back for some reason even though the guy said he reinstalled the graphics drivers and all the asus motherboard drivers after the clean install. i've put in the screenshot i get when i try to download the graphics drivers
- puzzlezaddict11 months agoHero+
@2yezk7avk6e8 Try a clean uninstall of the driver, as described here:
Then install the newest driver again.
- 2yezk7avk6e811 months agoNew Rookie
i followed the link and i did it and the driver installation still failed and now one of my monitors won't turn on. LOL!
- 2yezk7avk6e811 months agoNew Rookie
okay i restarted my computer a few times and the graphics drivers finally downloaded. hurray!!!!!!
- puzzlezaddict11 months agoHero+
@2yezk7avk6e8 Great, let me know how Sims 4 runs. If you do get another crash, please post a fresh dxdiag so I can see what else might have changed.
- 2yezk7avk6e811 months agoNew Rookie
okay sooo it crashed again so here's the new dxdiag
- puzzlezaddict11 months agoHero+
@2yezk7avk6e8 Please boot into your computer's BIOS and look for a setting called CPU Turbo Boost or similar. If you find it, disable it, then test the game again. Additionally, if an XMP profile is enabled, disable it as well, which you can do with one click.
- 2yezk7avk6e811 months agoNew Rookie
okay so i didn't see a turbo mode to turn off and i had xmp profile disabled and the sims lasted longer than it does but it still crashed. is it normal for the game to crash after 30 minutes or so? i think the game might not be able to play for extended periods of time
- puzzlezaddict11 months agoHero+
@2yezk7avk6e8 No, it's not normal. People on systems much weaker than yours can play for hours with no issues. Just to be thorough, please try the clean boot (described in post 7) again. If that doesn't help, try it again, except with your computer offline this time. You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play. I realize this isn't a long-term solution, but it is a helpful test.
- 2yezk7avk6e811 months agoNew Rookie
okay so bad news it's still crashing. is there anything else i can do?
- puzzlezaddict11 months agoHero+
@2yezk7avk6e8 I would look again for a turbo mode because I've heard from multiple other users that disabling it helps, and one of them said it was well-hidden and they couldn't find it initially. I'd try to find a guide for you myself, but your dxdiag only lists Asus as the motherboard manufacturer, not the exact model. So if you still can't find the setting, please list the model number and I'll do some googling.
- 2yezk7avk6e811 months agoNew Rookie
my motherboard should be the asus tuf gaming z790-plus
- puzzlezaddict11 months agoHero+
@2yezk7avk6e8 The setting should absolutely be there since this board supports overclocking. You may also have ArmouryCrate installed (don't install it if it's not present), which could allow you to disable turbo mode to some extent. I don't use the software and wouldn't recommend it, but if it's already there, there's no harm in trying.
If that doesn't help, try updating your BIOS. I believe this is your board, but you really need to triple-check before trying to flash a new BIOS, as installing the wrong version can be catastrophic. Your version is 0411, whereas this lists 1663 as current.
Please note that among other details, there's a DDR4 version of the board as well as a DDR5 version.
The reason I suggest updating the BIOS is that Asus apparently started rolling out updates to address certain instability issues on the Z790 platform a few weeks ago. I don't know whether that applies to your specific issue, but it's worth trying anyway.
- 2yezk7avk6e811 months agoNew Rookie
for some reason this computer sucks * and won't update the bios. the ez thing or whatever for asus doesn't show up, and the myasus thing just gives me the drivers and won't update it for me even though thats what its supposed to do. am i cooked
- 2yezk7avk6e811 months agoNew Rookie
okay i think i did it but it was janky so theres no promises that the computer will live
- 2yezk7avk6e811 months agoNew Rookie
ok and the game crashed <3
- puzzlezaddict11 months agoHero+
@2yezk7avk6e8 First of all, is the computer overall working properly? If the only problem is Sims 4, then that's at least a good sign that the BIOS update went well. I'd also like to see a new dxdiag.
- 2yezk7avk6e88 months agoNew Rookie
ok sorry for the wait everything seems fine other than gta 5 also crashing but i did find out some new things about my crashes in the game. crashes take way longer in build mode than in live mode and the game never crashes when i'm in the gallery menu. here is the new dxdiag
