Sims4 -- storage glutton

I installed Sim4 to my Windows 10 pc.  It initially wanted about 20 GB off my "C" drive which I don't have.  So I told it to install everything on my external drive which has 1TB free.  The game also insisted I install something called Origin (whatever that is?).  Anyway after all is said and done.  Sims4 completely filled up my "C" drive to the hilt.  I see files on my external drive and a huge amount of space taken on my "C" drive for "Origin" and "The SIms4".  Why doesn't the game install EVERYTHING on the external drive, as I told it to do at the beginning?  Grrrrrrr!

Now I have a "C" drive with no space available. ☹️    How much storage space is required for this game to run?

The game itself was installed to your external drive. Only Origin and your user files was installed to the local drive. I recommend that you look for redundant stuff that you can get rid off. Consider upgrading to a bigger drive.
