Are you sure you are playing the game in full screen mode? Here are some of the common troubleshooting steps for PC users that may help you.
For Game performance
1> Repair the game:

4> Check if there is any program that may conflict with Origin :

Hi @dandelioness,
do you maybe have a virus scan or anything of that kind running in the background ?

yes I do have a virus scan running in the background (internet security). I go online, while I play. Wouldn't I be vulnerable if I turned it off?

The Internet security should be active but the scan running might be interfering.
Make sure the active scan is finished, then play the game. It's ok if the virus program is active in the background, just not actively scanning. Scanning is not a process that happens all the time.

Oh, I thought you meant running the virus scan in the background. Even when it is not actively scanning the screen goes back to desktop. No one else is experiencing this. Maybe it is Windows 10? Thank you so much for taking the time to help me troubleshoot this.

Try a clean boot: http://help.ea.com/en/article/how-to-clean-boot-your-pc/ to see if the issue goes away.
This is to find out if it's something in the background.
