"Something has caused the program to stop working correctly" Sims 4

I have been playing the sims 4 for a while now but recently I have been getting a message that says something has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I have reinstalled the game many times and also reinstalled Origin, but it is still not working. Please help

  • Try updating your drivers then and if that doesn't help, try resetting your user files as described in the factory reset described in this post: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4/FAQ-Troubleshooting-Steps-amp-Known-Issues/m-p/3621199

The folder should not have been deleted when you reinstalled (although I'm unsure if there's a question these days if you want to keep your user data or not).

You won't loose anything. Just make sure to not delete any files  and make a backup.

After renaming, repair your game by right clicking on the game in Origin.

Try on a new game with nothing added back first (start new game). If it works, put back your save game and try again. If it still works, you can start putting stuff back.

    • Options.ini (or just re-set all your settings manually)
    • Tray Folder
    • Screenshots/Videos/Custom music
    • Rest of the save games (leave out slot_00000001.save which is the autosave and no longer needed - if you still have it)
    • Custom content like clothing, hair, skins, make up ....
    • Mods (one by one, making sure they all still work)

The rest does not need putting back, cause they are mostly cache files that recreate or log files that are not needed for the game.

  • Hi @mieve1

your graphics drivers are from 2011. Even though your card is older, there should be newer ones. Check the legacy driver page on AMD.

Are you using any custom content or mods in your game ? Does the game crash at a certain interaction/time or just randomly ?

@crinrict I do use both custom content and mods in my game but I believe they were either deleted or disabled when I uninstalled the game to reinstall it. Also, the game crashes when I open it and it gets to the"The Sims 4" screen. It has been a while since I've seen a plumbob.

@crinrict So do you suggest installing The AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.2.1 Beta Driver for non GCN Products?

I'm really bad with AMD stuff but isn't there some non-beta driver that's newer then 2011 for your card ?

I'll see if anyone else can help you better with this.
