Steam doesn't launch Sims 4 - Only opens EA APP

So I finally decided I wanted to update my game for the sake of a mod. In doing so, I found out that I needed to update to the EA App (as I'd been clinging onto Origins). I also wanted to launch through my steam account, so I cut my losses and fully uninstalled both Sims 4 and Origins. I then installed EA App, signed in to the correct account (Which already has Sims 4 in library in both EA and Steam), and then opened steam to download the game. It downloaded fine, I even verified the files, and then I launched the game.

All it did was open EA app, say "preparing the launch the game" and then nothing. The steam play button goes back to green after a few seconds.

What I've tried:

- Double checking my steam account is linked (it is)

- Verifying the game files

- Clearing EA app cache

- Running both EA App and Steam as admin

- Disabling OneDrive sync of the Documents folder (where the game data is stored)

- Tried launching with a clean game (moved Electronic Arts folder to desktop)

I made a backup of my mods, cc, and save data beforehand since I knew I'd be re-installing the game and would have launch issues, but I didn't expect that every troubleshooting tip in these forums wouldn't work for me.

Any other fixes floating around? I don't want to end up so desperate that I download an old version with an origins emulator just because the EA App doesn't work.

  • @LunaStarSeeker  Try creating a new admin Windows account and playing in that.  Even if it's not a good long-term solution for you, it's a great test because it removes all the possible issues related to your current Windows account.  The new account needs to be local, as in, don't sign into Microsoft.

If Sims 4 works in the new account, we can try to fix the old one.  If it doesn't work, the issue system-wide, and in that case, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.
