stuck on the first loading screen

Hi,

I have had this problem since last update. Almost everyday I have opened the game to see if the problem still occurs, and unfortunately it does. So, the game opens normally and I see the home screen of the game, the one where I see the household I have last played, and I can buy the packs, start a new game etc, you know, the home screen. Well, then I click on "resume game" and it starts loading with the green plumbob on the screen and all, but it gets stuck there. It just loads and loads, and never goes into the actual game. Before this problem the game has mostly worked without bigger issues. Occasional crashes have occurred.

I have done literally everything to try and fix this: repaired the game, removed extra/unnecessary folders, cleared caches, restarted my laptop multiple times, tried running the sims as an administrator and all the other things that could be done. Also, there are no updates and the graphics drivers are up to date as well.

One thing that I haven't done is completely uninstall the game, because I am scared that I won't get back my game, although I have copied and saved all the folders to my drive.

I would appreciate if anyone could help me.

  • I'm having a pretty similar issue, though mine just started yesterday. I get to the home screen just like you, then I click resume and it gets to the spinning pIumbob then crashes. I posted on another discussion (https://forums.ea.com/discussions/the-sims-4-technical-issues-pc-en/cannot-get-game-to-load/12196997) yesterday where a few other people seem to be having similar issues and I've seen a few other threads about this too. I don't know what the fix is but I wanted to let you know you aren't the only one having the issue. Can I ask what your operating system is?

Okay, good to know I am not the only one. I'll go check the comments under your post.

And my operating system is Windows 11 Pro.

  • tyv4loav4vvh  If you click Load Game rather than Resume, and choose this same save but a different, previously-unplayed household, does the save load?  If not, what about a different save, or a new one?  Please test and let me know.

If you can't even load a new save, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Okay, so I now tried that and it worked. But when it took me to the sims world, I clicked on the same household and it got stuck loading there. I did it again, but choose a different household and it worked normally. So this means the problem is this one household, right? Do you possibly have any idea of what in the household could cause this, or is it something else?

  • tyv4loav4vvh  I don't know just from your description, but we may be able to find out.  Please open Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 and delete any lastexception files you see.  Try again to load your main household, with no mods or custom content present.  If and when it doesn't work, look for a new lastexception.  If you find one, open the file and delete the first line of text, then attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon.  You can also copy the text and paste it into your reply.

Thanks, I think that worked because I can now play the household. The game is just quite laggy, it takes longer than usually to load when I switch between places but that could just be my laptop or wifi. But it doesn't really bother me too much

  • tyv4loav4vvh  If you run into any more trouble, or you want to troubleshoot the lagginess, please let me know whether you get any lastexception file when loading or playing this household.  Check the modified date to make sure it's a new file.
