The sims 4 lagging when trying to adjust volume or screen brightness

For about a month, ever since the release of lovestruck, I am unable to adjust the volume or screen brightness of my laptop without the screen lagging, the same happens when I press the windows button on my laptop. I've tried removing all my mods and cc but the issue has stayed.
