Solved

There is a problem with your game's setup. Please reinstall your game.

Hello, I have a problem. I bought The Sims 4 from Steam almost a month ago and was only working with the 32-bit Legacy Edition. It was working normally up until the recent 'Lift your spirits' update. After I updated the game, I tried to launch both the 64-bit and 32-bit versions but they both give me an error 'There is a problem with your game's setup. Please reinstall your game' and the game does not launch. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the game, repair the game, updated all of my visual c++ downloads, and restarted my pc. Also, I am on windows 8.1 with a 64bit OS and I meet the minimum requirements to run Sims 4. Please let me know what I could do to fix this problem and if you need more info. Thank you!

@Meltedrouge There's also a failed windows update. Check if there's anything else to update to.

Since you're using the Steam version, did you include the exe file in the steam folder ?

Could you also try Steam and the game with admin rights

You said you updated all VC++ components. Do you have both 32 bit and 64 bit for those ? Have you tried uninstalling them all and reinstalling ?

  • I updated my graphic drivers to their latest versions. I'm using Windows defender and I added origin.exe, TS4.exe, and TS4_x64 to the exclusion list. But it still gives me the same error. Any tips?

  • Hiya,

I am facing the same problem; only I noticed it happen after I started using the new EA App, and the error occurs every time I carry out a full shut down of my PC and when I switch it on the next time and try to open The Sims 4, the error pops up and only stops after I uninstall and reinstall the game. I further noticed that it does not occur when I put my computer on sleep mode as opposed to complete shut down, but that does not work for me as I need to completely shut down my computer from time to time.

As it normally takes forever to receive responses or even get a solution from Answers HQ; I am going to go ahead and uninstall the EA App and revert to Origin in hopes that I will not face the same problem with Origin as I have with the EA app. I have only chosen to share this problem in case there is a solution for anyone who might come across the same thing whilst using the EA app. I have also attached the screenshot for reference.

    Many thanks
