Trouble Getting Into My Game

I click on the EA App, like normal. Nothing happens. I tried again. While I get the notice the app has been minimized, I don't see it on the bar at all. In fact, the game itself isn't opening up, although it claims it is open. I have nothing on my screen to verify this. Ho-hum. I just wanted to play my game today to see what antics my Sims will be about today.

I believe it was Thursday in my game when I last played, which was yesterday.  Love Day is Friday. Now, that my Sim has been cured of his Emotional Void ailment, he very much wants to take his wife out.

Their fourth child will be aging up on Saturday and Sunday is the Starlight Accolades. My Sim is nominated.

As you can see, I have a lot on my plate, which won't be cleared unless or until I can get into my game.  Gr.

Today is hot, AC is on the fritz, and I just needed the distraction. Of course. Isn't that how it always works?

I uninstalled the App and reinstalled, so I can't figure out just what is wrong.

Any suggestions, please?

  • GalacticGal  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, or rename it if it's easier.  When you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.

I realize that the whole point is to play with your main sims, but it's important to find out whether the game is not working in general, or only with your current user data.

If you still can't play, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Thank you so much.  I'll give that a try straightaway. I generally will rename it.

  • I was having trouble with my game on Tuesday. I ended up replacing the App and still, although the game was on, allegedly, I had nothing on the screen.  I came here for help and discovered the answer, which was to refresh my game folder. D'oh. I knew that, but for some reason it escaped me for a time. Slowly, I was able to bring my Mods, Tray and my saves over to the new game folder. Curiously, my Mods folder was devoid of two key mods. MCCC 2025.4 and Road to Fame v0.5_D10

Without those, my Rock Star isn't.  I reinstalled new copies of both. Before I brought my saves folder over, I made certain to reset the settings that got lost somewhere into the ether . . .before I moved my saves from the old to the new. (At least my brain was on top of it at that moment.)

Still, I couldn't get in when the test save opened up easily. Then it occurred to me, to swap the backup saves file for the one I pulled from the old game folder.  I did notice, for some reason, the Scratch folder inside the saves folder, that wasn't in the backup folder. At any rate, it worked. I was finally able to play my game for a bit.

The bonus in all of this, is that my calendar was still where I'd left it, so I wasn't going backward in time. Erik was still afflicted. I sent him to Innisgreen to find Care Ren once again. That's when I realized, I had been cheated of some of the gameplay. And I have pictures of new stuff that occurred. Now, I just need to know if I should go ahead and edit my latest story update to reflect those changes.

Just looking for a little bit of advice, if you please.

It worked. So thank you so very much. I even was able to transfer my backup saves folder, my Mods folder and my Tray. I am i business once again.

After seeing that my game works from the desktop, how do I play on my saves? What is the next step?

  • GalacticGal  Glad to hear it, and let me know if you need further help.

Kmader1  You can move your saves to the new Sims 4 folder you'll see in Documents > Electronic Arts.  But if you use any mods or custom content, please test those files first, in batches, to see whether any of them are preventing your game from working.

Once you've sorted through your mods and cc, you can move over the saves, plus the Tray files, which are saved households and builds, plus Screenshots and Recorded Videos if you care about those.  The rest can be discarded; the game will regenerate the files and folders as necessary.
