@SimJudie Is your monitor plugged into the video card and NOT the computer? What is the model of your video card? The video driver is not WHQL - I recommend either updated to a newer video driver or roll back the driver. There was some bios issues when upgrading to a better video card. Acer has a bios upgrade P11-B1 bios - UEFI for Windows 8 dated 4/3/2014. This is a newer bios then you have and there were several posts referring to video issues. The higher the resolution the harder the video card has to work. IMO Acer does not use quality capacitors and I have seen several Acers with failed components. If the add in video card is not working properly it may be a failing power supply. I'm guessing your computer may be 4 years old and may need a good inspection.

I do not really know very much about tecnical issues
what is a WHQL?
my pc is indeed about 4 years old now
and I can let somebody take a good look at it
it also seems as if the "ultra-button"
with all its graphics settings
doesn't work
I mean such as:
try to switch on a lamp, while the on-button doesn't work
you won't see light
can it be such a thing? or is that baloney?
I've also tried to roll back the driver
it didn't work
I can find out now if there is a newer one I can better use,
I'll let you know, there must be something to fix this,
thank you for helping me,
greetings Judith

You mean no lights at all or are you taking about the lighting effects ?
Could you post a picture of your graphics settings ?
